Never saw this before today...

Players are down to the last ball. Player intentionally double hits the cue ball, makes the hanger in his opponent's pocket and re-spots it with one of his own. Play continues with cue ball in place.

Could this play be unsportsmanlike conduct resulting in loss of game?

One of the rules of one pocket is that if you pocket an opponent's ball it counts unless you fouled in one of two specific ways: pocket the cue ball or send the cue ball off the table. Any other foul and the ball counts for your opponent.

The players in that game did not know the rules. Or they were playing by their own because they don't like the real rules of the game.

http://Onepocket.org is a good place to find the rules.

I posted a thread about a situation similar to this 1p.org awhile back.
I don't think the debate was settled on whether or not it was unsportsmanlike.

It was in regard to a shot Darren made on Orcollo.

If you intentionally foul in a way that is outside the rule of play and the player your playing calls the game, you lose.

It might not shake out that way, but in this case it should.

Traditionally he's supposed to scratch in a pocket or send the cb to the floor.

When my friends and I play we call "Popov!" (indicating we're gonna "pop off" the table) and just spot the balls and give up the cb. Saves time and potential injury.

Wouldn't do this in a money game tho.

So wait, he did a double hit and foul on purpose, to leave his opponent on a bad spot, as a result he owed a ball and gave his opponent a point as well? This is cause to end the game, do I understand this correctly? Very interesting how people deal with this outside of tournament play.

6.6 Intentional fouls are an accepted part of One Pocket tactics as long as they are played by use of a legal stroke, such as by lightly touching the cue ball with the cue tip; by rolling the cue ball to a new location without regard for legal contact with either an object ball or a cushion; by pocket scratching the cue ball; or by using a legal jump technique to force the cue ball off the table.

However, if the acting official rules that a player has used an illegal technique to direct the cue ball or any object balls to a more desirable location, then the incoming player has the option of either playing the balls where they lie, or requesting the official to restore all such moved balls to their location prior to the illegal maneuver. The offending player is charged the standard one ball foul penalty, and in addition may be further penalized at the discretion of the acting official under the general rules of unsportsmanlike conduct.
