First post for me. Hello AZ. I'm coming to NY for the first time ever on Saturday. Amesterdam & Society Billiards are on my list. Can anyone recommend other rooms, instructors, tournaments?

Thank you for all your help.

I recently saw that Phil Cappell is giving lessons at Amsterdam. Katz's deli for pastrami.

You can walk to either Soho or Society from Amsterdam. Soho has 9-ball tournaments on Mondays and Wednesday nights. Which Saturday are you coming in? On Saturday, October 29th Amsterdam will have an exhibition between Jose Parica and Earl Strickland.

Amsterdam is a very nice room. I recently took a lesson from Tony Robles there and enjoyed it very much. I feel my game has improved since doing so. I don't believe he gives lessons on weekends only on or for special occasions, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to ask. If you would like his contact information, pm me. Hope this helps.

If you find yourself anywhere near the upper east side, check out East Side Billiards 163 E. 86th St, Phone# 212-831-POOL. It's not a big action place nor are they holding any big tournaments but it's a nice laid back type of place, and they have a $15 play all day special and some of the cheapest prices on beer and drinks in NYC. http://www.eastsidebilliards.com/

Places to play...

I was there a month ago. I would say Amsterdam is nice and well kept. (expect to pay top dollar for table time) East Side Billiards was very run-down. I would not go there again as the equipment was in poor condition. Didn't get a chance to go anywhere else. Good luck and have fun, Scott:thumbup:
