1st to reply or 1st to post?

When an item is for sale, should it go to the first person to reply to the post or.....the first person to PM the seller? I've seen it happen both ways and as a buyer I think it should go to the first to reply to the post. I know I've lost out on an item or 2 and have recently seen it happen to a few of you. What do you think?
 
When selling I go by the first person to contact saying they want it, regardless of whether it is in the thread or by PM. I am just looking to sell the item, not give preferential treatment to anyone.

I honestly have no stake on who buys it. It's basically who says they will take it and sends the money. I have posted first and something been sold before. I believe the seller when they say someone got it before me; I have no reason not to.

Really a seller has the right to sell their item how they choose. If it pisses enough people off then no one will buy from them.
 
lol....thats good, but I've actually been bumped by a PM as I was typing, "PM" sent.......some days you just can't win.....:rolleyes:
 
Actually, to whomever the buyer wants to sell to.

I recently turned down 2 different people because they were such nits I simply didn't want to deal with them. True!

"First to reply" or "first to PM" isn't that important. "First" may be out of country, wants to send a check, never replies back, etc.

If I have multiple REPUTABLE buyers, I will answer in order of the PMs, but if "first" wants extra time to Think and "third" is willing to pay now, well, bird in the hand....

I'd add- since there are no laws in place, no one answer will work for all sellers.
