Originally, a poolroom in Georgia was to hold the International Wheelchair Tournament. When they cancelled without warning, Planet 9-Ball owner Ken Miller of Tampa, Fl. stepped in to fill the void. Kudos to Ken Miller.
The top 32 wheelchair players in the world have been invited to participate in the 2003 International Wheelchair 9-Ball Tournament to be held at Planet 9-Ball in Tampa,FL. from September 23-27th. Along with players from Japan and Europe, there will be "Rootin' Tootin' Straight Shootin' Danny Luton" from England, Charlie Hans from Ohio, Aaron Aragon from California and Ken Miller from Tampa, to name only a few of the great players competing.
Planet 9-Ball is a 15,000 sq. foot room with an upscale video gameroom, great food, a full bar and 30 Robertson's 4 1/2' x 9' tables, a Gabriel table, 2 Diamond tables, a 5' x 10' snooker table and a half dozen coin tables. Smoking is still allowed at Planet 9-Ball at this time.
I'm proud to say that I will be the TD for this event from Tuesday through Friday. The finals of the International Wheelchair Tournament will be held on Friday, Sept. 26th. The two players that contested the finals will be back on Sat., Sept. 27th to participate in a Scotch Doubles event with Pro players Earl Strickland and Johnny Archer. Tournament Director Steve Tipton will be on hand for this match, which will be filmed for later broadcast by ESPN.
