2007 Amway Women's World 9-Ball Championships

Sung vs. Tan

Tan is running out after Sung hooked herself on the 4. Sung kicked three rails to contact the 4 but left a shot. Tan cinches the 9 to get on the hill. 4:6 Tan

Game 11:

Tan breaks and makes a ball but has no good shot on the 2. She can see the two but it lies badly.

She tries to play a stop shot safe but left Sung facing a sever reverse cut which Sung slices in. Sung is back in line and looking good to get out.

Tan's previous shot looked like a foul but it was too fast to tell for sure. And the TV crew decided NOT to show the slow motion replay :-)

Sung is looking pretty good here and plays the cueball two rails for perfect shape on the 9. 5:6

John:

Is the event being run by Mr. Tu Sports? I don't see his logo or presence anywhere.

Sung vs. Tan Game 12.

Sung breaks and I can't tell what happend because the camerman fell asleep and left a blinking red light on screen.

Now we have a lovely shot of the audience. I should mention the miles of cables that VideoLand has to produce this event.

Sung has missed a shot and Tan is back at the table looking at cutting the one up table in the corner or playing safe. She is opting for the safe as there is no good path to the 2. She fails to get safe and Sung is treated to an open shot and a natural path to the 2.

Sung MISSES the one, caroms the 6 in and ends up hooked on the one. She chose the wrong path to get shape on the two and had to force the 1. She has flailed at teh 1 and gotten lucky again by making the 8. She now has decent position to run out the rest of the rack with six balls left. Sung has missed the 3!

Tan steps to the table in great position. Only she can defeat herself from here.

She ends up very straight on the five and has to draw straight back for the 7. She ends up with less than optimal position on a makeable 7. Speed is critical here and predictably she ends up with a long straight in 8. She must draw again for position. SHE MISSES BADLY!!

Sung has two ducks to make it HILL HILL.

6:6 Sung Breaking

The Streamcast is a bit delayed. Your post came before the finish of the rack from my end. :D

Sung vs. Tan HILL:HILL

Sung breaks - makes three balls and has a shot. Not the best shot but a shot. She's looking at an off-angle shot at the one in the corner. Position is tricky because the 8 is in the way. WOW!! she BANKS the 1 into the 9 for the win.

THAT was a gutsy shot in this position but it was probably the right one as there was no real safe available and making the one and getting position on the 2 was really tough.

Tan has to be kicking herself for that missed 8 ball in the last game. The crowd is stunned as another Taipei hopeful get's a spectator pass.

The press room.

I gotta tell you it's really cool to see reporters sweating the matches and typing away furiously to report the results as they come in. All the reporters in the press room are newspaper reporters.

Perhaps Taiwan is in a bubble regarding the state of pool's coverage. Ironically pool participation in Taiwan is way down, billiard sales are way down but pool enjoys good ratings. So getting pool on TV is apparently not the natural cure that many think it might be.

It might create an legion of fans who follow their player but not a substantial increase in overall pool players.

Wendy Jans vs. Ga Young Kim Game 1

Ga Young breaks and almost makes the 9. She shoots the 1 in the corner and gets funny for the 3 but can see it. She bumps the four into a bad position and must consider an off angle ban or a safety.

She plays a GREAT two way shot to get safe. Whoever makes the 4 wins because the 5:9 is nearly dead.

Wendy jumps for the hit and leaves Ga Young a long tester. She must back cut the 4 towards the corner. She goes for the shot and plays three rails for short side shape on the five. She misses the 4 but the cueball rockets around the table and gently bumps the 9 in!!!

Great shot selection. 0:1

I think Rubilen is playing on the other tv table, but commentators are not mentioning about that game, not even the scores. Any updates please?

Wendy Jans vs. Ga Young Kim Game 2

GY breaks dry. Wendy makes an easy 1 and has no easy way to the 3. The 5 is tied up. Wendy elects to play for position to play safe on the 3 and she does play safe. Ga Young has an easy one rail kick. She plays a perfect resafe by sticking the cueball on the back side of the 6. Wendy kicks one rail and leaves only half a ball for Ga Young to shoot at. Ga Young thins it perfectly to leave Wendy in a tougher spot.

Wendy not only misses the hit but she breaks up the 5:8 cluster and gives Ga Young an open table with ball in hand. The only issue is getting the correct position on the 6.

No problem. Ga Young played a beautiful draw-drag shot to get perfect on the 8. Makes the 9 and it's 0:2.

Wendy Jans vs. Ga Young Kim Game 3

GY breaks dry and leaves Wendy an open table. The 7 to the 8 could be a slight problem. Nice touch and Wendy covers it easily. 1:2

Wendy Jans vs. Ga Young Kim Game 4

Wendy to break. Makes a ball but she has no good shot to make the one and get to the three. The one has a pocket. Wendy thins the one and sends the cueball safe behind the 9. Ga Young goes to the jump cue.

She plays a PERFECT resafe. She pointed to the area she wanted to leave the cueball and jumped with perfect draw to kill the cueball to the rail. Wendy Jans answered by curving to hit the one and left GY a combo shot on the 9. GY missed the combo but the one found a pocket. She was left with no shot on the 3 and failed the safety so Wendy was left with a clear shot.

The 8 and 9 are tied up. And it looks like there is no pocket for the eight from any angle. Wendy missed breaking up the cluster after the six. Now she is faced with an easy seven and she rolls too far and only has and edge of the 8 available to her.

Wendy shoot the eight softly and leaves GA Young a tester. GY is lining up to fire it in and she does bringing the cueball around four rails for position on the 9. 1:3 for Ga Young.

Wendy Jans vs. Ga Young Kim Game 5 - 1:3 race to 7

GY to break: Comes up dry. Wendy can see the one but has no clear shot. She attempts to play safe but leaves Ga Young a shot.

GY goes for a 1:9 combo and hangs it up and hooks Wendy brutally in the process. Wendy's in trouble here. The one is a big ball but it's far enough out that the kick may scratch. ANd it does. GY gets ball in hand on the easy 1:9.

Tough action on that one. GY should get lottery tickets at this point :-) She has definitely gotten better rolls. 1:4

Wendy Jans vs. Ga Young Kim Game 6 - 1:4

GY breaks and makes the one. She has a shot on the two. The 5:8 are tied up.

She has gotten straight on the four when she wanted an angle to go into the 5:8. Now she must find a safe on the 5. She plays the five thin and leaves an off angle 5:8 combo for Wendy. Wendy is on the end rail. She makes it and gets a decent shot on the five.

Using the bridge she makes the five and gets a little short on the six. Perfect draw on the 7 to the 9 and it's 2:4.

Wendy Jans vs. Ga Young Kim Game 6 - 2:4

Wendy makes 2 balls on the break. She is hooked on the one. Rubilen Amit is leading her match 3:1 against Chan. Wendy pushed and Ga Young took it and sold out.

Wendy tried to break up the 5/6 and left herself awkward on the 4. Now she is facing a tricky 5 and plays a good safe to hide GY behind the six.

GY is looking at a two rail kick shot but she elects to jump instead. SHE JUMP BANKS THE BALL IN AND HOLDS THE CUE BALL for shape. A perfect two way shot. Then she rushes the six and dogs it badly leaving Wendy a three ball out. Wendy overdraws the shape on the 7 and dogs it too.

GY is left with a long straight 7. No problem and she gets the game back. A bad mistake to give that one back from Wendy Jans. 2:5

Time Out - Commercial Break

Fury cues make men more virile and women more attractive. Stroke with a a FURY CUE and feel the power to be unleashed. When Bob wasn't getting any more using Enzyte he bought a Fury cue and now he's the mayor. www.fury-cues.com

Wendy Jans vs. Ga Young Kim Game 8- 2:5

GY breaks dry. Wendy can see the one. She plays safe but leaves GY an open shot. GY misses and leaves Wendy no shot. Wendy tries to play safe and leaves GY jacked up on the rail with a long shot to the corner. GY misses and leaves Wendy without a good shot.

Wendy turns the table back over to GY and leaves a clear shot. The shape from the 5 to the six is tricky. GY young plays it perfect two rails to bump the eight for perfect position on the six. The rest is child's play. Ga Young is on the hill. 2:6

Wendy Jans vs. Ga Young Kim Game 9

2:6 Ga Young. GY has had better rolls here but she has also played very well.

Two balls on the break and a shot at the one. The 2 is tied up behind the five. GY bumps the five out of the way. She opts for a long shot on 4. Draws it perfect to get on the 5. Snaps it out perfect for the six and this match is about to be over.

Dead perfect on the 9 - not even a Taiwanese earthquake could stop Ga Young here.

7:2 Ga Young advances and Wendy goes home. Europe's hopes are down to Kelly Fisher. But Kelly is a contender for sure.

Tough rolls for Wendy.

Amit v. Chan

Amit is leading 6:1 right now. I have to say that VideoLand seems to play favorites here. Instead of switching to the other table where Chan from Taipei is losing they are deliberately ignoring the game. The official explanation is commercial time. :-)

But not even an update is quite strange in this reporter's eyes.

It looked like Amit was running out for the win. I am going to check it. BRB.
