I heard second hand that Bobby McGrath Jr. successfully defended his title yesterday. Can anybody verify this?

Think he keeps getting to play in the APA?
Lol, this time I have to go w/no (if true). Why, did you or someone you know play him in Vegas earlier this year?

No watched him play at spring regionals. I have no problem with him, just think the never ending who's amatuer/pro is always an interesting question.

In speed pool it doesn't matter. SP is a genuine POS made up game that is about as interesting as swatting flies. To even call it a pool game is a sacrilege. Someone must have been bored completely out of their minds, drunk, and high to have even thought up something like this. Of course this is just my opinion.

Apparently (I have just recently heard) the APA does not consider Trick Shots and Speed pool (or other novelties I guess) as criteria for banning a player from the APA.

Bobby did win the speed pool again this year. Dave Pearson came in second for the third year in a row. Bobby pocketed a cool $40,000.00. I ran the time clock for the event.

did tony drago play? if not was he invited or asked to play in this event or does he even know it exists?

I talked to Bobby tonight; everything stated above (him winning and taking $40K) is true.

As for the game itself....everyone has their right to their opinion, but it is a game, and one that can get you paid if played well. I've seen Bobby do the "8ball" game (solids then 8 ball then stripes, or vice versa) in 40-some seconds in practice on a 9 foot table; whether that's considered "pool" or not, don't know, but it was pretty impressive to see it done.

On the APA thing, I'm not sure about his staus, but it's not like he goes out to Vegas and wins the singles in 8 or 9 ball. He has won singles 9ball in VNEA though. ??? I don't see why he couldn't play in any league he wants to ....

Congrats Bobby!!!!

I have absolutely no problem with speed pool... it's a competitive game that takes a set of skills just like any other billiards game.

I think that universally in leagues that if you make a certain amount of cash in any pocket billiards competition you should be exempt from an APA or VNEA type league. If the APA or any other league wants to start a masters division where the players entering know beforehand that they may be competing against champion level players, then who is to say they can't do it? NO ONE!

Personally, if someone is good enough to win a speed pool championship why would they want to go out and beat up on the low level APA leagues? Seems... i don't know... mean... not in the spirit of the game?

But, what I was saying is there are a buncha guys out there in leagues that can beat Bobby in a short race - ask Dogginda9 on here. He's from the Joliet area, and those two have bumped heads in a number of tourneys....and he has done better in Vegas (APA wise) than Bobby has.

I get what you mean that someone his speed shouldn't "want" to beat up on low level league players, but that isn't who he is usually playing against. He's playing the top players in those leagues, and at that level, with short races.......

I know Bobby and he does play in the APA,, and thats fine he should. I used to play Bobby in north Vernon all the time on the bar box EVEN and it was close. Bobby is a good player but by no means someone who should be kicked out of the APA because he makes balls fast lol. I like Bobby he has a lot of heart!!
