2011 DCC - "CaliRed" Presents - Episode 7 - "SVB vs Alex Onepocket Semi's

Wow! This one took a day and half to finally get posted! First I screwed up and spaced the fact that the file splits at 4 gig and I uploaded about a 1/3 of the match. This is the biggest video I have uploaded, coming in at about 66 mins. Which is a 3.3 gig file. It was cranking away for about 5 hours uploading yesterday and got to 87% and then the "error" came up. Nothing to do, but start all over.

This is the semi-final match at the Derby City Classic Onepocket, between Shane Van Boening and Alex Pagulayan. Filmed on Jan 27th at 7:00 pm. There was Shannon Daulton, Earl Strickland, Alex and Shane, and Scott Frost, left in the tournament in the previous round. Alex lost to Earl, Shannon had a bye, and Shane beat Scott. This left Shannon playing Earl on the TV Table and Alex and Shane battling it out to see who gets in the Finals.

At the beginning of the this video, I included about 11 mins of the final game between Shane and Scott from the previous round. Shane's only loss in the Onepocket, was to Scott Frost, which he lost 3-2. This time, Shane beats him 3-0. So, when you fire up the video, you will see how Shane won his match against Scott to get to the semi's to play Alex. It was a nice bank with nice speed.

I didn't listen to the whole video, so if my mic picks up someone talking about your mother, don't hold me accountable.:D

So find a hour of your time, to sit back and watch how 2 great rotation players, play onepocket. Alex certainly has the advantage over Shane in onepocket experience. He has had many battles with Dippy over the past year, playing for days at a time, giving up huge spots (18-5).

Choppy

Is it my computer or is anyone else having problems watching these matches on Vimeo? The audio is fine, but the video is choppy . And im missing some great matches here.

It could certainly be your pc, as I do not know what you have as far as bandwidth, cpu, video card or memory.

First thing you can try, is to turn off the HD (High Definition) You can do this by either clicking the HD button at the bottom right of the video or by right clicking anywhere in the video and choose Turn HD Off.

This will switch it to a much lower encoded video, which will take a lot less resources to play.

My videos are probably really pushing the envelope of what Vimeo will accept. That is even after I've re-encoded it way down to start with. I will continue to experiment with different types of exporting the file, but at the same time, I don't know if anything I do on my end will help the end user, because all the videos are re-encoded again by Vimeo, once they have been uploaded to the Vimeo server.

I looked in their help file and they don't get very technical on playback issues.:D

Do I need a fast computer for HD?

We’ve found that most computers made in the last three or four years (running either Mac OS X or Windows) are fast enough to play butter-smooth HD. In some cases, you may realize a major performance gain by quitting unused programs and closing extra browser windows. Our player is designed to degrade the video quality gracefully if it detects that it’s dropping frames.

Do I need a fast internet connection for HD videos?

Most residential cable and DSL connections should be more than adequate. If HD feels slow to load, trying turning off any background downloads or peer-to-peer sharing applications. Or push the play button in the player and then pause to let the video buffer before viewing.

Just finished watching it,what a shot on that 6ball bank than run 7more to win, that was awesom.thanks alot cali the picture was perfectly clear, great job!

I just watched it Greg, it was real nice quality, thanks for sharing..

I noticed Shane hand Scott cash after beating him in the 1P match on the video.. Just curious if anyone knows what that was all about?

Not trying to stir anything up as the match was clearly on the up and up. It's hard to speculate, I just thought it was interesting that you kept this in the edit and wondered if anyone knew why the $$$ exchange was made?

I believe this action might have been a "saver". Certainly had no effect on them playing to win 100%. Just might be where 2 people that believe the match might go either way, and the 3-4th place money might be a 1000.00 and 2nd might be worth 2500.00, then two people may say... " whoever wins this, gives the other person a couple of hundred" So really all they are doing is changing the difference in the money that is paid for each place. Softens the loss a little, especially for 2 people who think the match might be 50-50 on who loses or wins.

I can say, when the match was done and they were breaking down their cues, I didnt' pay that much attention to it and never saw it, until someone else pointed it out to me. I guess I might have edited it out, for the simple fact someone might think it meant something it wasn't. You know, there's nut jobs out there that dispute everything or read something into everything. We didn't land men on the moon, it was all fake!:D

Greg,

I thought the same about the saver too.. I've done that too on a much smaller scale of course..

I want to be clear that I was not questioning the validity of the match, just curious how others took this too!
