Hi guys, good to see many of you still playing 14.1!

Anyone know if the 14.1 worlds (or whatever it's name is now) is going to happen this year and if so approx dates?

Just got this email this morning. Approximate time of the year included:

The 73rd World Tournament of 14.1 Announced

Chicago, Illinois - The greatest straight pool championship in the world continues in its eighth consecutive year, the 73rd World Tournament of 14.1. Once again in partnership with Dr.Michael Fedak, Dragon Promotions will produce the biggest international 14.1 event in existence with this year's event again likely to remain in the Northeast region of the United States. The absolute best pool players from around the world will arrive on the birth country of 14.1 once more to attend this prestigious event to vie for the coveted title of greatest straight pool player in the world.

Dr. Michael Fedak, the event’s patron sponsor, said “The World Tournament of 14.1 is the only remaining full-format international tournament for straight pool. Dragon Promotions resurrected this competition 7 years ago and deserves our recognition and great appreciation for preserving the vitality and existence of this great game. Dragon has been a terrific caretaker of this prestigious championship and I am pleased to help them continue this effort.”

The World Tournament is the oldest tournament in history that still exists today. Invented by Jerome Keough and shortly after recognized as the official game of billiards. The first World 14.1 Tournament was held in 1912 and won by Edward Ralph. In its history due to war and economics, the World Championships had 29 tournaments that did not take place including a 15 year gap between 1990-2005 until Dragon Promotions revived the game and the World Tournament in 2006. Since that time, 14.1 has seen a resurgence that it has not experienced in decades with the World Tournament inspiring new players, spin-off tournaments, and leagues to help secure straight pool for new generations to come.

This year's event will be slated for the end of summer and fall timeframe. It will also mark the 101 year birthday of the World Tournament which has created new 14.1 icons such as Thorsten Hohmann of Germany, Oliver Ortmann, Stephan Cohen of France, Niels Feijen of Netherlands and the first American in over 20 years to hold the title, John Schmidt of the United States.

"We're excited and proud to have Dr. Micheal Fedak support The World Tournament once more. Dr.Fedak's continued efforts and counsel have been monumentally instrumental to the World Tournament's success. We anticipate this year's event to be most exciting and look forward to seeing the players from around the world and our fans there again", said Cindy Lee CEO of Dragon Promotions. The experienced Mrs.Lee has handled the logistics of organizing the World Tournament from locations at the Hilton Hotel, the Hyatt Hotel, and all it's other locations during the better part of a decade. The demand to host the World Tournament has grown each year.

The format for the event will be the same as the past six years. 64 players divided into 8 groups of 8 players in a round robin format playing races to 100. The top 32 players will advance to a double elimination tournament races to 150. The top 16 players will then advance to a single elimination race to 200 points.

The World Tournament Champion will also have his name inscribed on the 14.1 Champion's Cup alongside the names of previous winners such as Hohmann, Ortmann, Mosconi, Feijen, Mizerak, Lassiter, Cohen, Martin and John Schmidt.
