2022 US Amateur Championship

I've been watching a bunch of these matches lately, maybe 10 or 12 now, including several with Bayaua and/or Watson in them. I can say that neither of these guys shoot at a speed comparable with a middle-of-the-road pro, and certainly not anywhere near a top pro. They can make the shots and move the rock, yes, but the pro level of consistency is not there. I'm specifically talking about male pros here.

Jacob is definitely not a pro. He's a very good player, but I would question someone's definition of a "pro" if they thought he was.
Short stop, or did that term fell out of favor. It is me, or some people no longer have the vocabulary to describe things more accurately, such as calling all cues sneaky petes, or SL7 as pro speed.

Not sure why this hasn't been a topic on AZ as of yet. Jacob Watson of Tyler, Texas won the US Amateur Championship against former U.S Amateur Champion (‘11) Ernesto Bayaua of Tomball, Texas 11-8 to win.

Not sure how old this young man is, but he showed he had guts. As I write this, he has a Fargo of 686, and a 1212 robustness.

Here is the final match...

This was a great match. I like it because while they are very good players, they are not pros and can and did find themselves in similar situations I run across while playing. Watching the pros and they play so perfectly it gets predictable, fun to watch but not entirely applicable to my level of play.

Thanks for posting.
Didn't know about this at all and I live there....oh well.....

Since he won the US amateur championship, he gets a free spot in an upcoming Pro tournament. Not sure which one, and not sure he will take it. He certainly can't be considered Pro by anyone on azbilliards. I recall a recent thread bashing players under 720 entering a pro tournament... Saying they are just there to donate and shouldn't be playing with the pros.

He, actually both of them have played a lot of open events around Texas. I've seen him on stream many times. Ernesto many more. Ernesto has a been a guy that threatens to cash or finish high in any event he enters. There was a health issue for a while I think but he seems to be back to playing great pool.

For me based on the rules those guys were allowed to play and their levels were no secret. The ones who make it to that event are not typical entry level players lol! It was a nice Win for Jacob and a solid finish for Ernesto.
