2024 China Open - where are the elite Chinese pros?

Is this China Open the one that was played in January of this year?

Seriously, though, there is more money to be won at the earlier Heyball levels and in mainland 9ball events. And, that is where their sponsors make their money.

No, it's going on now. Lots of top-notch, non-Chinese players are there, too, in both the men's and women's events.

Filler beat Orcollo 9-8 in a double-elim. round when Orcollo hung the 9-ball at 8-8. Dennis is wearing glasses now!

yea, i saw a clip of him playing heyball against gareth potts. he switched the hiphop swag to the professorial look. still plays jam up. i bet he'll be in the tail end of those events soon

Brackets here: http://spba.org.cn/match/tz2024/mindex.htm

Only 7 Chinese pros, with Dang Jinhu being the only one I recognize. Anyone know why Wu Jiaqing and Liu Haitao aren't in?
Zhu Xi He and Fu Jian Bo are both class acts. Two of my favorite players to watch. I drew my coach in my final game of the open Stage 1, and got a few claps from Fu Jian Bo. Took it to 7-7, but lost. Storing those away in a little box in my brain. Lost to Wang in my second game... was 7-1 up and lost 9-8... My brain hurt after that.
Will write up my experiences of Yuan8/China Open when there's time to do so.

The Filler/Orcullo game was a good one!
Was funny/ironic watching Filler call a foul on Orcullo mid way through that game lol

What is 3rd Chance on those brackets?
Looks like they have a Stage 1 with 1st Chance, 2nd Chance, and 3rd Chance brackets to put some of the players into the Stage 2 double-elimination portion with 64 players. Those 64 play down to 32 for single elimination to the end. Maybe Flakeandrun can explain exactly how that Stage 1 portion works, and who gets into Stage 2 without going through Stage 1.

Yes, that's right.

Yes, also correct.

I thought it was based on previous performances (in the open, in the China pool world and in general pool events)... But it seems there is some kind of invitational element to it... I know that usually they do make some 'allowances' (shall we call them), to combat usual things like visa issues and other things that arise. I know that because of the politics in the pool world, the event seems to have made extra efforts to include people or have a more international field.

Players who are already in China are naturally easier to consider as participants (hence why we see ropey players like Yednak not have to go through stage 1... I know a few players in stage 1 were annoyed about certain players not having to go through it...)

yes, i know, i opted for brevity there. but didn't he beat the luekemia?
It's my understanding that he has many issues that stem from his previous battles.
I was told by a friend his health is a bit of a rollercoaster.

The field looks very deep on both the men's and women's side.
Absolutely, I wish more of it was streamed. I am tempted to go watch a bit after work, as Tangzhen is nearby where I work, and can use my pass. It's a choice between that, or try and get a game with some of them at my local hall later.

This last month gone has been one of the most enjoyable months for me
