Peru (Martinez & Tevez) defeated USA (Van Boening & DeLeon) 4-1, 3-4, 4-1. USA will have another chance to make the Last 8.

Four teams are already through to the Last 8 (Quarterfinal) from the winners' side: Peru, Canada, Hong Kong, and Poland. The other four will be determined tomorrow (Wednesday).

In a 5-hour match ending with a shootout, Canada (Pagulayan & Morra) defeated Albania (Kaci & Kaci) in the last quarterfinal match.

The semifinals, tomorrow (Thursday), will be Peru vs. Canada and Chinese Taipei vs. Poland.

I had to laugh at the title of the event: The WPA Men's Doubles 10-ball "World Championship."

WPA/Predator sure do like to, in the recent words of Jeremy Jones, "slap" a world title moniker onto an event.

I do like doubles matches. MR has dropped the ball by indefinitely postponing the World Cup of Pool. So Predator is filling the gap. Good for them.

I haven't watched the event, though, and probably won't. I don't mind the format for World 10-ball. Not a fan of it for doubles. And no doubles match should last five hours!

Prize fund is quite nice, though. $70K for the winning pair and $40K for the runners up.

Yes, pretty sad. It does have some world-class players, though, and I wonder what the participation would have been without the conflicting events.

Based on other Predator events, very good.

The 2022 8-ball World Championship was the first event of this kind since 2012 - the event has had a spotty history until Predator took it over. The 2022 field was stacked with most of the best players in the world. And there was no conflict with MR.

Players included:

SVB
Filler
Gorst
Kaci
Chua
Shaw
FSR (winner)
Ko Pin Yi
Yapp
Biado

Glad for the players that this new event, with nice prize money, has been added. Calling it a world championship is, of course, comical. Soon, we may have sanctioned world championships in eight ball last pocket, one ball one pocket, spot shot shooting, and maybe even payball.

If this trend of calling anything and everything a world championship continues, the next generation of players may produce a player with twenty world championships. Earl Strickland, with a mere three, will be largely forgotten.
