20th Mosconi Cup makes history....

I have to jump in here...i only saw the 1st 3 matches but what I observed was some glaring differences between team usa and Europe. how many times did you hear team Europe drop and "f" or s" bomb? I mean, the guys on team usa know they are wired up. it is an indication of the lack of team spirit and cohesiveness.......earl, while being my favorite one to watch, got tilted way way too early in this event...put a bridle on him would you? ..where is some leadership here? he is saying, "the table is too easy"?....I ask, then why isn't team usa making more shots?, he says, "this is stupid" or something to that affect,,,,,,,noy an indication of "desire to win".....then the statement to mika, "you missed that shot"...mika's reply, "why are you even talking to me?".....earl's sharking at it's best......either give earl his medicine or take him out back of the barn for a whipping. did you see the look in the eyes of the team coach for Europe? frigging BURNIING desire to win which was carried over to the team mates.......what did I see from the team captain for usa?...other than complaining, what did we get from the usa team members? ..usa yesterday was nothing short of embarrassing and a lack of focus and certainly a shortage of proper etiquette. and we wonder why pool is a dying sport here in usa.......the question is, can usa fix it? if they think not, and will continue another day like yesterday, then forfeit bow, send team Europe home and save us from this show of #*@*%#.....and buddy is there why?...gezzzzzzzzzz :thud::slap:

Bump - In case anyone missed it

It's not over.

You make some good points but you are mistaken about the focus for the USA Team. It was there. They all want to win. The unfortunate part is that they seemed to be focused on the wrong things.

As for Buddy, I've had the pleasure of his company on many occasions and his sage advice can be inspirational. Hopefully, that will be the case today.

Being focused on the 'wrong' things is as poor as not 'wanting to win'.

I watched most of the action yesterday and the thing that stood out to me was that the Europeans looked like a team while the Americans looked like a bunch of guys who just showed up together. There was no cohesion on the team at all. The Europeans cheered one another on, high fived great run outs and all around looked like they wanted to be there with one another. The Americans did not.

I think the US team would be better off choosing slightly less skilled players that are willing to train together for this event rather than a jumble of the best players out there with no sense of unity.

I have championed the idea of using ONE TOP AMATEUR, like Landon Shuffett for the USA Mosconi Cup Team or perhaps the Collegiate Champion but the idea was shot down by the decision makers due to the belief that the younger players wouldn't be able to handle the intense pressure of the MOsconi Cup. It makes sense on one hand but to me, I believe young players who don't have families to feed might perform even better than those who have so much at stake. But that's just me thinking and that can be dangerous at times. :D

The Europeans could pick one of their up and coming champions as well. Personally, I would love to see how the younger players would perform under this intense pressure.

That being said, the younger American players might be more open to new ideas and perspectives.

I only saw the last two matches today, but every time Team Europe broke the end ball went to the bottom rail and straight back into the nine. Unless Team USA can figure something else out, they need break the same way, IMO.

I agree figuring out the break will be key. Too bad Corey isn't on the team or advising.

Team USA had several close calls where the 9 almost went in the side pocket on the break.

Throw Scott Frost in there, he really got his team pumped during bonus ball.

Slow down boys...

good grief guys.... sounds like you all think Team USA should just put their cues in the garbage on the way out of the building. Just hope they're careful and don't step on those tails that are planted squarely between their legs.... IT'S THE FIRST DAY for crying out loud. Every one of our players is totally capable of turning things around and getting things back on the right track. Sure we may still lose but to think that we wont ever win a game or they wont compete is just ridiculous. Give the guys some credit as they are all top shelf players. If you really think they are done because of a first day whooping, you sure aren't giving our boys much credit.

btw... Eurpoe can suck it! :D

It was mentioned in another thread that a couple of Team USA's members might have been out partying late the night before. Whether or not true, I still have to wonder if a big part of our team's problem might be preparation, or lack thereof.

We all know that the European players are a disciplined bunch. They prepare, religiously. They don't really need a coach to remind them how to prepare, but they probably get reminded by their coach, anyway. Does that happen with the USA team? If it does, it isn't apparent.

I think the American Mosconi Cup team would do well in the future if they had Stan Shuffett as a coach. Seriously.

When Jim Wyche asked Earl what Johnny had said to then before coming out for this doubles match, Earl remarked, what could he say but get a point, meaning win the match. I'm sorry if that is what he told Earl and Shane, it was the WRONG THING.

Results are what you get after you have applied the process and playing in the moment. Their focus has to be on what they can control. YOU CANNOT CONTROL THE RESULTS. The reason is in the equation below.

A x B = RESULTS

A= What you are able to control.
B= Everything you cannot control.

Don't get me wrong, Joey, but I don't understand A x B. I seem to think it would be a more understandable equation if it were expressed as A - B, meaning, focus on what you can control and remove from your focus whatever you can't control. Either way, I like your point.
