3/8-10 pin variants

Hello,

I have a couple of 15 year old McD cues with a 3/8-10 pin. A couple of years ago, I purchased a custom cue that was advertised as the same pin.

The shaft that came with the custom cue will not fully seat on the McD button, but the McD shafts will work fine on the custom butt.

This is not normally an issue, but this past week I received a Wheat State break shaft that won't fit the Stinger butt, but works perfectly on the custom butt.

Pics attached. The custom cue has a copper joint.

What would I need to do to get all shafts to install properly on any of the butts?

Thx in advance,
Rick

I should add that I'm hoping to avoid shipping the shafts back to Wheat State. He did offer to fix everything at no charge, but that would leave me in the lurch for upcoming league and tourney play.

Easy eneogh solution if you have a local cue mechanic that has knowledge and the tools past just putting a tip on.

It looks like that custom cue just has a smaller minor than the McDermotts. If you have a cue maker local, he could fix you up in no time, like Mr. Webb said. The thread count is the same but the minor for your shafts are different.

It looks like one of your cues had a pin that is about one thread longer than the other two.
The depth of the taped hole in the shafts should be deep enough so that that small difference should not matter.
However if the cue maker made that shaft to fit closely to the end of the pin that might be the problem.
Perhaps the taped hole on the shaft that wont seat properly needs to be drilled a bit deeper and taped.
Get something you can use to measure the depth of the taped hole in the shaft that dont fit and compare it to the pin that dont fit properly.

Another problem is that most taps dont cut threads to the bottom of the hole and if the pin that dont fit is threaded all the way to the end it might be running out of thread before it fully seats.

Either of these is a simple fix by a cue repair person.
Or if you know someone that has a 3/8 - 10 tap, like Kim said, run it in the hole and see if it cuts the threads any deeper.
