I have my table at home quadruple shimmed...

Corner pockets: 3 3/4"
Side pockets: 3 7/8"
God bless that is just brutal equipment:eek: My table is triple shimmed I couldnt imagine anything tighter. The guy I bought the table from offered Mac Combs, I believe is his name, they call him little mac, he is from clarksville plays at the night deposit. Anyway he offered him to play the ghost on my table and he woudnt take the action. I was suprised.:p

I agree with your opinion for my level of play (B level player). There were three games that I lost last week in a race to 8 (at Hollywood Billiards) by leaving the 9 in the jaws of the pocket. Also I do at times have a difficult time moving the cue ball.

However I have noticed when watching A and above level players, they are able to do what they want with the cue ball regardless of the pocket size, I've hit balls with Max Eberle, and watched guys like Ernesto D., Tang H., Morro and others manuever the cue ball around the table with ease (at Hollywood Billiards the pockets are just as tight as my home table).

I'm learning to be more precise and technical with my choice in strokes which allows me to manuever the cue ball. I'm still far away, but long to get better. Have a great day. Peace.

Ernesto did the pockets at a room here in Tacoma and they had a big tournament with Santos and other good players. On Sunday, no one ran more than 1 rack in a row!!!! There were so many hanging balls it was a joke. Everyone was scared to run a ball down the rail.

Tomorrow, we are shooting at the same room, but they re-did their pockets to 4 3/4". Maybe a little too big now, but a poolroom only gets paid on the recreational players being able to have fun and make a ball here and there. Players should be able to practice on a tight table for pocketing, but tournaments should be on 4 1/4's at the least, IMO. There are going to be 80 some players in the tourney tomorrow. Should be a lot of fun.
