I used to go to a place in Hollywood that was owned and run by Frank Torres. He was the national champ in 3 cushion back then, '84 to '86. Al Gilbert played there and several other very good players. It was a pleasure to see so much talent in one room. The tables were damn near perfect and you never heard a hard hit. Those guys hit the balls so sweet!! I've never forgotten that and haven't seen that many good 3 cushion players assembled in one room since. We had a young Russian kid named Vas that was pretty good and he moved to New York; maybe you heard of him? He played a local favorite that started the match with a run of 19 and the kid still beat him. I didn't see it but heard it was an incredible game.

I see some pretty f***ing jam-up 3-cushion players at Master Billiards on Queens Boulevard when I play pool there.

I have played at the carom cafe and that place has got some great players.another couple of places I have played with jsut as much talent is new wave in miami and billy maloneys place in ft lauderdale.him,carlos hallon,roberto arana,luis martinez and other champions play there on regular basis.out west I played at n.hollywood,the 8-ball and south gate where alot of strong players with alot of hart play.but one of my favorites is world class billiards in mass.saw alot of great players there and excellent equipmen.
