3 Cushion

3 cushion

What are you doing to promote 3 cushion billiards?

Nothing. We don't even have a table, though we would like to. Mazin Shooni, a USBA national champion, was here recently for the Elks 3 cushion tournament and he is an egaging guy and an extremely talented carom player. We play vids in the pool room all the time of the masters and marvel at their talent. The Mexican American guys love 3 cushion-they call it 'carombola' or something like that-and once in a while someone asks if we would consider putting in a table. The general public has no idea what the game is, and doesn't care, and IMO it's sad to put in bar tables instead to make a buck from the beer leagues. But that's what I did because having an antique mall or furniture store in my building would be worse. I look at 3 cushion and snooker and wonder if that is the spot pool will be in ten years from now. Maybe someday 3 cushion will regain popularity, but more likely it will just be the purists that keep the game alive.

Thanks for your input. It's nice to know that you're at least thinking about it. I talked our local room into getting a carom table about 1 year ago. There's been so much interest, that he made the investment to add a second table recently. There's good enthusiasm for the carom games. This is in an area of the country where previously there had not been a carom table in living memory, and the closest table being 5 hours away. Most people don't know what it's about. Kind of an example of the "build it and they will come" mentality. So far we're doing well with it. The once a month tournament has been well attended. Now we're set to hold our first USBA sanctioned tournament.
