The 314 Shaft on the Left fits my TS Pete, a 5/16x14. The shaft in the middle is also a 5/16x14 that I orded new. It fits, but is fatter and needs to be turned down, the brass pillot is not the same and the collars are actually different.

If you look at the predator site the 314 on the left looks just like a uni loc, but it fits my 5/16x14 butt.

Did predator change the way they do the collars and piloted shafts at some point?

The shaft on the left looks like it may have been a predator blank that a cuemaker added the joint to. I don't recall any predator cues with a shaft collar like the one on the older shaft. The one on the right looks like the way i've always seen them from predator

The shaft on the left appears to have a custom joint, probably built from a partial.

There's nothing wrong with this, and it's very common. You just have to keep it in mind when you're looking at replacement shafts. Joint collars and joint diameters can often be different than what the manufacturer builds to. Also, the shaft tapers can be changed as well.

My Scruggs SP is also slightly thin at the joint. I was able to speak to Bob Frey a while back and he told me that many of their cues at that time turned out that joint was slightly thinner than the market standard. I had tried several new shafts and all were just a millimeter or 2 (or 3) wide. So I just took the down a little, seemed to work out fine
