i just got a new shaft for my schon cue & my digital scale says it's 4.45 oz.

i've never seen a shaft weigh that much, have you?

also, do you think it has to do with the brass insert in the shaft?

And lastly, how much do you think you can tell about a shaft by the weight?

thanks.

Sure have. I had a -R- shaft weiging 4.7 Oz at 12.9mm and several X-Breaker shafts weighing 4.8/4.9 at 13.1/13.2 I do think the insert weighs around .5 Oz so really you have a 4 oz shaft. Nice, if you like that type of thing but nothing special.

I have 2 shafts for a Jacoby that weight a lot, one is 5.65oz. and the other is 5.35oz. great playing shafts.

I have read that some of the old school makers wanted the shafts no less than 4oz. and 4.5 even better.

I think when comparing weights we need the shaft diameter to really know the density. A 4.5 oz, 14mm shaft and a 4.5 12.5mm shaft are going to be VERY different IMO.

I forgot to include shaft length as well for obvious reasons...:D

well, i got 2 shafts...1 12.75mm @ 4oz & 1 13mm @ 4.45 oz from schon. Both are standard length, with schon standard taper & non-ivory ferules.

I will say they both hit extremely well & are very white.

ps....don't sell those shafts

My Madden shafts are heavy.. I like em heavy, seems to play much better than a light shaft IMHO... To each his own!

no, i don't think i'll sell em:D...but i may lengthen the taper on the 13mm shaft just a bit, I think that the shaft wood is stiff enough that it won't become whippy.
