Okay -- I just watched the "Corey 76" video that Dennis Walsh kindly made available. I must be missing something. Is there now some kind of chalkless cut tip, or self-caulking tip, out there? Or does Corey Deuel just not like chalk when playing straight pool? During the course of a 76 ball run, he rarely, if ever, chalked his tip. I put it this way because while watching, I was presuming that he was chalking while off camera a couple of times. But maybe he was doing something else, such as removing chalk from his tip, whatever chalk could have been there. What was visible were a couple of occasions when he turned his cue upside down and spun the tip on the carpet, obviously, it would seem, to remove chalk (again, whatever chalk could have been there). Also, on multiple occasions he had the referee mark the position of the cue ball and then clean it. Was all of this to avoid skidding shots? Is this a routine that is not new for him (and perhaps others) depending on the equipment and conditions? I have been watching high level play (only on videos) for something less than a year, so I've seen a limited number of runs/matches, and maybe this approach doesn't surprise all you veterans, but I'm shaking my head ...

Caveat -- I haven't watched it yet.

But he might have been using Kamui chalk -- that doesn't require chalking so often (although some players still do).

That would also explain the cue-ball cleanings, as the original Kamui is notorious for messing up the CB.

Thanks. There has to be some reasonable explanation, and you may have found it. I knew nothing about Kamui chalk other than having seen it advertised. Must be like super hot sauce -- you only want the slightest hint of it -- as Corey was trying to get the stuff off his tip!

Looking in the Main Forum, I found a recent thread by Dr. Dave that confirms your input, although his summary suggests that the differences between the properties of the chalk brands that he tested is not great. My caveat: I haven't watched his video.
