Oroville California at Gold Country Casino....Check out "Tournament Announcements" this forum to see some details

This would be the biggest added open tournament involving amateur players that I can remember. I do wonder how the team ratings will go?? how it will be done?? How many teams & players from beyond California and the west coast will attend?? Reno is butted up to this event must make it a more attractive two weeks of pool.

Here is the flyer -

The rule stipulates that you can only have one Master/pro/semipro on the team. If there are any questions, there will be several people on staff to make the final decisions. This will be based on known ability. The internet also offers some idea of ratings on people. I think there are several A players that have flown under the radar and not won many big tournaments that may slip by, but they will be few and far between. You might want to call the number on the flyer first if you have any doubts, rather than find out too late on site. Staff decisions will not be popular with one side or the other, but their decisions will be final.

When ever you use subjective evaluation of players skills you have problems. each person on staff may easily have different opinions. I remember a C+ player from New york came around AND he beat many master level players. he would never be a master player in New York example.......

Tell me about it! Like I said, there will probably be some slip through, but I think the staff is familiar with most known players as they also run Reno. And if all the staff have different opinions, then a little checking around on the internet or a few calls to their home state might obtain a little more accuracy. Either way, I am sure the staff will try to be fair, and their final decision is the last word. If they have it the next year, then everyone will have a better idea. Also, an A player from our area might not be an A player in the country....Tony Balzer and Tim Tweedell come to mind. You can have A players on your team if (s)he is not a pro or semi-pro, I believe, combined with one pro/master/grand master.
