48 players tournament - points distribution

Hello.

We want to start a league with 10 stages.
Each stage will be max. 48 players, double elimination till last 8 players, when we start single elimination.

How should we calculate points for each place? Is there a formula? Or just a random number of points that we write at the begining?

The champion will be the player that got the most points after 10 stages.

The UMB has a formula for distributing points that you could probably adapt.

Or you could use this:

1 45
2 30
3-4 20
5-8 15
9-12 8
13-16 5
17-24 3
25-32 2
lower 1

Reasons: You get a little for just playing so no one has zero ranking points. The steps at the top are not so large that three wins nearly assures a championship, so the top players need to play nearly every time.

What are the points, reward for advancing in each tournament round? That mean each round should have a point value and at final you just summ the points for each round you passed. Is that logical?

I think most people will find it clearer to have a table as I showed above. It doesn't require any arithmetic.

If you want to break it down to increments for each round, just take the change between each level in the table.

Or, you could simply count total matches won without giving extra weight to later rounds. That would reward full attendance.
