I liked them both. Thanks.

Yes sir, Independence Day. That's the spirit.
And, speaking of spirits. A word of advice to all you folks out there who will be drinking adult beverages, this holiday. Don't drink a fifth on the fourth if you want to go forth on the fifth. Happy 4th of July!

P.S. Once in my life I'd like to hear a true Rebel yell. It is said that the sound of one, reverberating through the forests of northern Virginia, has caused many a blue-belly to soil himself.

Here's a 1930's film of the Rebel Yell performed by those who actually fought in our Civil War. Ain't YouTube freakin' amazing...

Well, Tramp, I got to hear one of them rebel yells in person....
...Reed Pierce missed a long shot in the 2002 ? US Open nine-ball....
...he let out one of those yells...his opponent, Dallas West, perhaps more used to the decorum of straight pool and 3 cushion, mildly told him there were 15 other tables he was possibly upsetting.
Reed replied in a loud voice "Well, I got lucky....and I just wanted to tell everyone."

Pt, old friend, I'd wish you a happy Fourth, but you guys up yonder aren't celebrating it are you. Yesterday was Canada Day. Is that similar?

Our Canada Day was July first...everyone put maple syrup on their pancakes....
....and apologized for using so much.

Just call me a sentimental old slob, but the 4th of July always makes me so proud of this great country we live in!..Sure, it ain't perfect, but where else in the world can you find as many people so proud of their heritage?..I am always reminded of the famous "luckiest man in the world" speech, that Lou Gehrig gave at his retirement..We are so lucky to have been born in the good old USA!..Why else do you think most of the rest of the world wants to come here?

You're absolutely right, Dick. There's never been another one like it, nor will there be.
We are going through some tough times right now, but we've been through tough times before. We've led the way before, and we'll be there to lead it again.
This time of year it's great to hear those soul stirring songs that we all grew up with.

Attention to colors!

We live in a great country no doubt, but there are plenty of other great countries with people who are just as proud of their heritage.

So who cares about them? I'm an American, and so is Dick.
We're celebrating the Fourth of July here, for crissakes.

I come from a dark and grim city. The anus of an empire thats seen better days, not much of a law and order kind of place.

I am so fortunate to be born in the USA! I am so blessed to be an American citizen.
Happy fourth of July.

Eddie

Props to you Eddie, it can't be easy to maintain your attitude..I was raised by my grandmother in Detroit, through most of the 40's..At that time, and for several years thereafter, it was one of our greatest cities..We were cranking out most of the worlds supply of cars and trucks.. Jobs were plentiful, and life was good.

I don't want to sound like the sky is falling, but in recent years, returning there to visit relatives, it was amazing to see how far it had gone downhill! Packs of dogs running wild, and drugs and crime rampant and out of control!..Except for the 'gangbangers', most of our youth is getting out of there as soon as they are old enough..A sad commentary on too many of our once great, big Eastern cities.

I blame most of that on the fact that, after winning [sic] WWll, we propped up Germany and Japan, both figuratively, and financially..Not our smartest move!..They now dominate car production, and their cities are flourishing, while ours seem to be in a downward spiral of decay..As we celebrate the 4th, it is hard to believe we will ever be able to reverse that trend..:(
