5/16-14 pilot

Hi everyone, I have a question that I couldn't find a proper answer to online. So basically I'm buying an ob2+ shaft from a guy overseas and the joint supposedly fits 5/16-14 but according to him he removed the pilot so that it would fit all 5/16-14 pins, piloted or unpiloted. He has a couple of cues that uses 5/16-14 pins such as Mezz, Pechauer and Layani. I just wanna ask if would this affect the cue when it comes together? I'm using a Joss.

I'm not a cue maker but I play with a 5/16-14 flat faced shaft on my Schon. Haven't noticed any ill-effects and the hit feels fine.

I've never liked the 14 pin flat face.
The brass nubbin on the standard OB2 is probably small enough to fit all 5/16-14 piloted applications...for instance Joss cues require a small nubbin and Schon is very large.

With generic shafts like OB, Predator etc., the nubbins are so small it doesn't make a big difference, but I don't like it

It seems that flat faced 5/16-14 shafts still works on 5/16-14 joint that would usually have a brass insert. Only when I receive the shaft I will know if it works.

Excuse me for asking, but what is a nubbin? Are you referring to the pilot? I have a original Joss solid maple shaft without logo but it is starting to wobble and the diameter is rather big, like around 13 to 13.3 mm. Not too sure what to do with it as I do not have a very good stroke.

Sonds like somethin' out of the The Lord Of The Rings movies..LOL

Yes. He's referring to the tongue, nipple, "nubbin":) etc.. that sticks out at the end of the shaft, be it wood or brass or whatever, that inserts into the pilot hole of the joint...

Nubbin... I guess thats another way to descibe it Ted :)
