I just purchased a new Joss for my wife and found that the joint caps are interchangeable with my Schon. Also, the shaft from the Joss will fit my Schon. The extra shaft from my Schon will not thread on to the Joss. Any one have any ideas why the Schon shaft won't go. Just curious?

I have noticed the same thing. I think the pitch of the threads are different, and the pilot is bigger on the Schon.

Just because the thread size is the same doesnt men that the pitch of the thread is the same,,,,,, im not a machinist, but thats what ive been told by a master machinist. This means that the angle and or depth of the thread my be different.
Id leave well enough alone, because if you run a tap up the shaft you may loosen the joint or loosen the shaft and it will become sloppy.
Each cue maker has his own way of doing things and both brands you mentioned are good cues,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,dont mess with a goin thing,,,,,,,,if it works, dont fix it.

5/16-14 thread

I just had an extra shaft for my Schon and thought it would be nice if she could use it. Once it wouldn't start I knew something was amiss. I didn't want to force it so I ordered her another Joss shaft for a spare. Like I said, just curious. Thanks

Ive got a couple of Szambotis with the same thread,,,,,,,,,I dont even use the shafts from one cue on the other.

My falcon shaft fits a joss but the joss shaft wont fit a flacon shaft..why is that...i guesse it
s either the joss shaft isn't deep enough for the screw of well the joss shaft is kinda piloted maybe thats why it wouldn't fit...either way probably the reason why it didn't fit. same could go for you

if you realy want the shafts to interchange, then get a tap and tap the hole again

if the pilot is the problem, then a cuemaker can fix that

my advise,,,,,,,,,,leave good enough alone

It's because the size of the pilot is different. A Falcon shaft will fit any 5/16x14 joint. Just about nothing will fit a Falcon. A Falcon will fit a Joss, Schon, and Helmstetter. A Joss will not fit a Falcon but will fit a Schon or a Helmstetter. A Helmstetter or a Schon will not fit a Joss. A Schon will fit a Helmstetter but a Helmstetter will not fit a Schon, a Joss, or a Falcon. A Meucci black dot fitted for a Falcon (5/16X14) will fit anything. I interchange shafts from one to another that fit with no harm at all, mainly because the shafts all weigh different amounts, have dissimilar tapers and flex, and give you a completely different feel from one to another. And if anyone can follow what I said above, you'll get an A+ in reading comprehension.
