I am looking for an 6 or 8 inch tap. Any idea where I might find one without having it made??

I looked into custom made and got a price of $176 for one tap. If I buy 12 I can get them for $60 each. Are there 11 guys out there that would be interested in a tap at $60??

What do you need such a long tap for? Doubt you will find others that need one that long.

Weld a pc of 1/4" SS rod, by whatever length suits you, on the
end of one of the readily available cheap taps. Then, have at it.
Sounds easy right? Just one caveat; the welder needs to be experienced.
Find a tool & die welder and buy him a few.
