50 Yard Line

Instructors and/or Knowledgeable Players,

I had this spread last night when i was at the table and wasnt sure what to do. the cut on the 1-Ball (about half inch off the rail) was right on the 50 yard line. what i mean was if it was a little less shallow i might have been able to draw back to around Point B. If it was more steep i might have been able to come down around Point A and perhaps up past the 3-Ball for a shot.

But again, this shot just was right in the middle where i didnt see much that could be done with it in the way of getting back on the 3-Ball. I thought about going forward with high left but i was worried about running into the 5-Ball or contacting one of the other balls on the way back up.

What do you guys recommend on shots like this, shots where the angle just isnt there to neither draw back or come across? i think i ended up hitting a safety, just stopping the CB at the 1-Ball and sending the 1-Ball back down table.

I might consider making the 1 with a little bottom right to pull the cue ball back to the middle of the table. I like that kick at the 3, sending it back up table while hiding the cue behind the 9 and 7 balls. Even if it isn't a perfect safety, your opponent will have to work to make the 3 and get position on the 4.

There are probably several other options, but that was the first one that jumped out at me.

inside spin swinging around the 5 and b/t the 6/4.....you got to know your cue but thats what I'm shooting unless i duck.

I'm glad someone posted this answer. I thought I saw this as a possibility, from looking at it. I don't know as I could make this shot properly (yet) but I see how it could get through there....

If i would have gone offensive that is the shot i would have tried. i mentioned it in the original post. but with those balls in the way i am sure i would have made contact with one.

If the 1 is frozen, you go rail-first with a bunch of inside to get back on the 3 pretty easily:

I'm still looking, but I don't see the problem here?? You say the draw shot is not there, baloney! If you can't draw that back between the 7 and 8, you better start working on your draw shots! It's not a "pound" shot, it's nothing more than some right draw with a smooth stroke.

I agree.

but how is that going to get me a shot on the 3-Ball? very, very small landing zone down in there. i guess it gives me a better opportunity for a safety though.

just hit the heavy inside cross over draw that neil described and the shot i described and they are about equal.......

both the shots went through the gap as laid out but even if i would have gotten a collision theres enough spin on the CB that it would clear free........

you can try Earl's donkey stroke shot.

we've been there already and the shot that Neil described is the same "style" of shot.......

its called Gyroscopic Precession........

its a stun shot that once it catches the rail the massive side spin catches and give the CB its travel.......earl is using alot of side and just a touch above horizontal center on the CB.........

the shot Neil describes is more center ball or not much below it and straight side left spin.........
