Cannot get this thing near to perfect, slate seems to need to be ground. It is an old GC from the 60's or 70's with floating slates that are pinned. The question is where to start the slates. Someone told me you should start from the end rather than the middle like normal. Before I start grinding (stopping at a local granite place that does cabinets on the way in today) is it correct to start from the end?? Also, I assume I level from the high leg to the center legs and then to legs at the other end.

are you grinding because the slates read low going toward the middle on both sides?

Don't think grinding will help at all and in fact may cause you many problems but if you do it would love to see some pics of this.

Over the years

it seems to have worn between the rails and center. It seems to be high at the rails and in the center.

Probably a 6 x 12 foot table 5 piece slate 2" thick and fun to work with. Frame might be sway back. Level the frame with no slates on as close to perfect as you can then check your table with the slates on the table.

Did the GC1 come in a 5-slate 6'x12' snooker model?

No,

GC1 only came in 10'x 5'

1" slate

This is

6' by 12' with 5 2" slates. Frame has some sway, but levels ok. When slates are put on is when problems occur. Looking down the table under a straight edge, it looks slightly like a flat "w".

Well I had a GC 2 6 x 12 but it was 1.5 inch slate, looks like a GC1,maybe thats what you have. Sounds like you may be getting some drills out.
