70 Ball Run

Thanks for the comments

Hell of a run brotha! how long you been playin?

Pooplayer2093, Sascha & Vahmurka:

Thanks for the nice comments.
I have been playing for a lot of years mainly by myself. Started when I was 14 and played to I was 18 at home.
I did not play again until I was 30. When I got married & bought this house. Played for many years just here at home by myself. Started playing
Leagues in N. Dallas about 22 years ago one night a week.
A few 14.1 tournaments over many years with the Police Athletic League and that is about it. I have taken lessons from & have become close friends with an Ex-Pro player LeRoy Kinman over 20 years. He's 81 now.
Just started to play in a 14.1 league about an hour from my home. I am 7-0 so far with 5 matches to go. It is the only 14.1 league in the area since Randy G. use to run one for a few years 22 years ago. That is how I started playing in the Leagues here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

This is not the same as "Dmgwalsh's" league. It is based on the BCA ratings.
There are three different divisions:
"A" players go to 150
"B' players go to 125
"C" players go to 100
There are between 12 & 14 players in each division. Melinda "AKA Trigger" Bailey is in the "B" division and Ashley Nandrasy is in the "A" division. Two very strong women players who are both on the OB Cue Ladies Tour.
There is no playing other skill level players. You only play the players that are in your division.
There is no set day. You have a list of players and you have to play three of them per month. So, you just call them and set up a time & date to meet them to play your match. I set most of my matches on Saturdays, being that it is an hour a way. Way less traffic and I try to play as early in the day as I can to beat the crowd & the smoke.

This is really my 2nd season but still in one year time span.
Just last season. I ended up in 2nd place. I was 11-1
Lost to a very well know & respected player in Texas named Paul Guernsey. (I bet Sausage knows him)
Michigan State 8-ball champ and has played in prof. 14-1 tournaments.
We had a close match and I came out on the short end 150 to 133.
I did have the high run of the season with a 58, Paul had a 52.
I have seen Paul play matches over the years and seen him run well over 100 balls during a few of his matches on 9' tables.
The 8' tables are very hard to play and at times they play better then other times. I think later in the day when they finally get around to turning on the air-condition. The tables start to play better. It is worth the drive to at least play some 14.1 with other players. Glad that I found out about it.

Sausage: it is in Hurst, just North/West of Dallas. Just west of Irving. Matter of fact, I did a travel map directions and where you lived. You are about 10 mins closer then I am, if you go north from where you were living.

Ran 72 Tonight

I just finished running 72 balls. I had a good break shot that should of opened up the rack. I made the break shot and another ball on the break. I got completely stuck in the rack. Maybe, I should of hit it harder, but I was afraid of missing the break ball. The cue ball was on the side rail and the break ball was out from the rail about 2 inches. They were very near each other. I had to cut it down the rail.
Anyways, 72. I am doing good lately. If I do not do better tomorrow. I will post this run Monday evening. I am going over my son's house and he will do it for me.

Wow! That's 70 or more 4 times in the past 9 weeks, right? I predict you go way over 100 in the near future.

It's been a Long Time

100 will be there soon mike !

Thanks Sascha. It's been a long time since I ran over a 100. I know that I am a way better player now then when I ran over 100 each of the three times that I did do it. It just goes to show a person how hard it is to put together big runs.
It is a great goal to work on and a great accomplishment. I do believe that video taping myself has helped me concentrate more. Ratta's comments about video taping are correct. I also believe for me, my game has improved a great deal since I have been writing on the 14.1 Forum of AZ. Reading posts of other players on their suggestions & ideas has helped. Most important to me on this 14.1 Forum is the support that all the players give to me & each other and I enjoy giving support right back on their accomplishments.
I have seen much negative things in my Life and it is wonderful to have friendship & support of so many people.
