Welcome to AZB

Nick

Let me be the first to welcome you to AZB. This is a great forum with many great poeple....and.....maybe a few not so great.....lol

I am unsure how to estimate a good price for your JW. The market is super soft right now, more cues out there to be had than buyers. The good news is that your cue is collectable and a few members here will have interest in what you have to sell.

I would take some quality pictures to post here, also get the specs of your cue and list that with the pictures. You will need the weight of the cue (weigh the butt and record that, weigh the shaft and record that as well, use ounces here), total length of the cue in inches, measure the ferrule (use MM for this measurement), do a general description of the cue, list the woods used, number of veneers, colors of veneers, type of joint and thread pattern, general condition of the cue and if it rolls flat on a pool table. You will need to roll the cue while together and apart paying close attention to the joint area of the butt, the butt-sleeve area, and the tapered part of the shaft as well as the tip and collar of each. Bottom line is to be as honest as you can about the facts of the cue. You can weigh the cue at your local post office and probably get the ferrule measured at your local auto mechanic's garage or, you can visit your local cue repair guy and they can get this information for you.

Most here will ask questions before buying your cue. The more information you can provide, the smoother the deal will go.

Most payment is made by certified funds. Some will send a certified bank check, some will use paypal, some will offer trades. Just make sure whatever method of payment is agreed upon, that is clears your bank BEFORE you ship the cue. There is also a service known as escrow that may be used. This is when you send the cue to a third party and the buyer sends the money to the same third party. After everything has been checked out, the cue is sent to the buyer and the money is sent to you. The third person holds everything to make sure the deal is on the up and up. This third party will charge a nominal fee for the service and is worth it.

Hope this helps to answer questions.

Thanks
Tom

cue specs

The butt wieghs in at 15.8oz.
The shaft weighs 3.4-3.6oz. and is 12mm@ the bottom of the ferrule kept getting diff. wieghts.
The scale I used is not the greatest but its what I had.
1 shaft is all there is and the cue is straight together and apart.

Look up ChopDoc on here, he is a big collector of JW cues and he will be able to help with the value of the cue. My gut tells me more than 850.00 and less than 1500.00, just a guess,

Refinished, no veneers and one shaft...$900.00 give or take a hundred in either direction depending on condition. GLWS

I agree 800.00 give or take 100.00 either way is pretty spot on with the current cue market being what it is.

Helpful Advice

Tom did an excellent job of explaining how to post a cue for sale on the forum and what to expect. I've bought and sold 3 Bill Stroud cues in the last 18 months and the price range estimated may be stretching it a bit for the top end price range mentioned. That's because the cue only has the one shaft and if it did indeed have two original shafts, then $1200-1400 seems in line since this cue is sans any veneers. Nonetheless, as has already been pointed out, this happens to be a cue that has potential collectibility since Bill officially retired from cue-making/repairs at the beginning of this year. Best of luck and as you can see, there are lots of folks on the forum that are willing and interested in helping others.
