8-ball after reading R. Givens

Pool has become my mistress. Once my wife fell asleep, I silently went off to the local bar for the 8-ball orgies.

In my experiments with the 2nd ball break, I have found that my %age of balls potted & CB placement have improved if I (as a right handed player) break from the left rail.

I also had significant success by following R.G.'s dialectical analysis of the relationship between break & run & defense. I resisted the temptation to continue the run with some difficult shots & instead executed some easy safety plays. The smell of victory immunized me from the dirty looks generated by safety shots.

Those dirty looks are worthless when you compare them to your winners smile! If anyone asks why you didn't just go for the kill tell them you were having so much fun you didn't want it to end yet!

and to a certain extent I do because I like to show them on the table,
what THEY DO NOT KNOW as kind of an incentive to work on it.

Defense is the difference between clearing the table for my opponent while laboring under the illusion that I'm winning vs controlling the game. I wish I had started this game 60 years ago. I'm such a damn neophyte!
