8-ball as a rotation game

8ball as a rotation game is pretty fun.
Play your suit in numerical order with 9ball rules applied.
Early 8 is ok as a combo.
Sinking opponents ball is loss of turn.

Had a lot of fun playing this yesterday with a Chinese friend who suggested it. Played on a Rasson Chinese-8 table. I guess there is already a name for this way of playing, and it's not an original concept?

Maybe a modified Saratoga? The early 8 by combo is interesting.

It was fun trying to work out different paths and trajectories to get an early 8, or make something from a busy table. The congestion element was pretty interesting. Chinese table is a little slower going anyway, but knowing it was a tough game takes away some of the frustration from the table that usually comes when playing standard 8ball (having to rethink runs that would be standard on an American table) and justifies that little extra time spent on each shot that is necessary on these tables.

I'm not 100% on Saratoga or how it's played, but seen it mentioned on here before.

we used to play a wild variation we called cribbage.. you could shoot any ball you want except 8 but the next shot had to be its color twin so if you shoot the 1 ball the next has to be the 9, 2-10, 3-11, and so on, if you missed on the mate the ball you made would be spotted, if you made both you score 3 points and your turn is over. the 8 ball could not be shot unless it was the last ball on the table and making it scores 6 points

I find the actual cribbage billiards game quite entertaining, especially with scotch doubles teams going, the goal being pairs of balls that add to 15, in a race to 5 points, the 15 ball only counts at the end, and may need to be shot twice if one side got to 4 but didn't close out..

Find it in your local copy of WPA rule book

We came up with a game called HiLo. Only playable balls are the highest and lowest of your set. Rules are otherwise standard 8 ball. The racking scheme is still gray - not a lot of pool going on. What I like about this is with two balls to defend against, the defensive strategy has to be more concise than simply bunting balls around.
