$100 entry fee barbox 8ball in Chicagoland? Who is this tournament for? C'mon guys... Payout 2 spots? Thant means 2nd place is only able to profit $300 on $100 entry? I've played in $15 tourneys where 1st paid almost $300! Seeing stuff like this tells me the wrong people are running the pool rooms in the Chicago area with few exceptions. You know guys there are proven formulas not to far from home (Beloit), that seem to do pretty well. Maybe some of you should take note. A $35 entry fee, affordable for winners and losers alike. $100, Not so much. Paying out 25% of the field, reasonable. 12.5%, really? Chance to multiply $35 cash in hand by 30x, 20x, 15x, etc... awesome. Chance to multiply $100 by 12x, 4x or nothing, not awesome. The odds on the money suck. Chicagoland is a lock artist area that plays 9ft pool. You want to have a $100 bbox tournament that pays out 2 spots in a city full of nits? Let's just flip quarters. There's an idea! Quarter flipping tournament! I think it may be more popular.
I can Only imagine who's idea this was initially, but I will say this. Whoever it was, didn't think about any of the things that may make for a successful tournament given their regular demographic.
I applaud your attempt to do something for pool. But trust me, there will be no need to cap this thing at 16 players...

Joe,

Thank you for your comments and concerns. We understand that this format with $100 entry fee, no greens fee and 100% payout is not for everyone. As you know, we only have 5 Diamond bar tables so a larger field of 32 or 64 would mean players would be sitting around way too long in between matches for our liking. An event with a smaller field was our goal for this tournament on a weekend when the good people in Beloit are hosting a No-Masters event. We wanted to provide a venue and opportunity for some of the better players to compete. If you have any suggestions for having a small event with a large first place payout, please feel free to PM us. In addition, we will be hosting a $35 entry fee, $350 added (based on 32 players) 9ball tournament on 9’ tables on Saturday, January 15th. We will look forward to seeing you then.

Regards,
Quentin Corner Pocket
