8 ball break and scratch

Please someone help me understanding this. There are always modified rules especially on golden break. Last week i potted 8 on golden break, i wasnt allowed to win because the golden break wasnt allowed. So the 8 got spotted and we continued shooting.

Tonight I broke 8 in again and scratched...then they called it out as a loss of game.

I thought if you were allowed golden break then you can lose on scratch. If you were not allowed a golden break then you can not lose on breaking 8 and scratch ?

Thank you

Never mind. Dr Dave covered this here. I think I was cheated lol!!!

8-ball rules are generally region specific, unless playing under the rules of a sanctioning body.

I've always said that the 8 should not count on the break, win or lose. However, I have seen variations of this, including the rule where it doesn't count as a win, but does count as a loss.... Dumb, if you ask me.

Well, if they were using bar rules...however, the guy stated that they used BCA rules, which dont have that no golden break but do count as a loss ? Or is it ?

if he was playing under that rule set. but everywhere has different rules. so quote what you want for a rule but the house rule or majority in the house make the rules.

before you ever play any place get the rules straight first.

in pool there is no standard set of rules that are followed. only quoted by someone who sees it his way.

most bars and social places 8 and scratch is a loss. 8 legit is a win.

Careful. BCA Rules are a different ruleset than BCAPL rules (which I am sure is what he meant). You cannot win or lose on the break under those rules.

every place you play where you are serious ask about

balls on the break rules
balls off the table
ball in hand
ball where behind the line
what kind of fouls are enforced and how they are

in bars social rules about hitting your ball and trying to hit it
and playing safes. those alone might keep you out of a fight.

you play by the local rules always and dont try to put your interpretations on them.

Can you please elaborate on BCAPL ? Thanks
BCAPL = BCA Pool League, which follow the CSI rules. When the BCA Trade Org sold their leagues, the late Mark Griffin bought the league, saved it, and grew it. He also added some different rules (full table ball-in-hand after a scratch on the break, explicit tip lift shot foul).

BCA = Billiard Congress of America. Formed in 1948, this trade organization held the world standardized rules until the forming of the WPA. The BCA magnanimously released the World Standardized Rules ownership to the WPA, becoming the regional member organization of the WPA. So the BCA follow the WPA ruleset.

I HATE 8 BALL, rules are diffirent all over the place. I don't even bother wasting my time unless rules are written down. Pool hall i use to work at had the BCA rulebook and we went by them rules.

you just play another game, take a stripe off and use the 1 ball as the 8 or play a game of 9 ball and maybe one of 5 ball.
more games and less quarters. bar players are resourceful and not nitty picky like some here about things.
