8-ball break on valley bar tables

Sorry ChrisBanks, I gotta side with chefeff here. There is no advantagious rack on a BB unless you cheat the rack. A sqaure, tight rack on the spot is a definite risky shot. There is no ball that will go into the same pocket every time you break...unless you cheat the rack.

So your first requirement infers (at least to me and chefjeff) 'how do I 'cheat' the rack to make a ball every time?'.

Sorry to be so blunt, but that life. You There is never a gaurantee of making a ball on the break. If there was, then it would be called Break and Run, not playing the game.

BTW, I break from the side, second ball, medium hard most of the time with limited sucess.

He isn't asking how to cheat, he is just asking for some advice to have a more consistent break on a valley table. If there isn't a way of racking them to your advantage without cheating then just say that.

I have been messing around with different breaks and speeds but haven't come up with anything overly consistent. Seems to be 50/50, have not tried much with the 2nd ball hit, may try that out!

There you go, that's the spirit.

Rackem tight and on the spot start on the spot with the cue move left half way between the spot and the next diamond to the left use one tip right and half a tip low and hit front ball square use a good medium-hard hit and snap ur wrist on impact with cue ball if im playing good i break and run 80% of the time and make a ball a good 90% of the time but if ur aim is off ull scratch in a side everytime

Sounds risky!

Finding a break that works perfect everytime will never happen plain and simple. The most important thing is finding a break and spending as much time perfecting it as you spent learning to play this game we love no one has that kind of time so next time u hit the practoce table spend an hour or 2 doing nothing but breaking and i personally guarentee ur break will b great

thank you i've never felt so motivated! I'm thinking of a softer break, I don't want to risk having my cueball take the subway.

8 ball break

I find that on valley tables it is much better to break on the 2nd ball at a slower speed and take the harder layout. Every time a try to break them hard on the head ball i either scratch or break dry, leaving an easy run out for my opponent.

Now we're getting somewhere. So we can't hit the head ball.

8 ball

I'm not saying that you can't hit the head ball. I see alot of players lay down monster breaks hitting the headball first. The main problem with breaking on a barbox, especially a valley, is the larger pockets. Too many times a ball knocks whitey in after a good break. I just like to be a little more cautious with my break. In the end it is whatever you feel more comfortable with.

I do use the 2nd ball break when im not 100% on my game and im playin a offensive runout kind of opponent

Break from the right-hand side at the headstring one-half diamond to the right. Hit the head-ball square at stun speed with no english. When you rack, move the right-corner ball and the center-rear-ball back 2mm. You have to practice the ball shift so you can do it while the rack is still in the triangle otherwise it is too obvious. It helps if your teammates distract your opponents so they don't see you do this. After all, that's what teammates are for.

I'll write it down. Is this ethical?

Sounds like your a cheater trying to learn how to house rack someone. Rack them tight as your supposed to and as you would want done for your own break.

Gotta love cheaters! This is one of the main reasons that I no longer "gamble" at pool. Too much chicanery deployed by a bunch of degenerates to make it worthwhile. Gambling, by the way, should be a gentleman's endeavor, whereby you seek to beat your opponent on the square by skill, not by treachery.

Any manipulation of the rack is cheating, period. It is quite sad that our game has come down to this for so many. Rack 'em tight and square as folks here say and break 'em in a manor so as to maximize the % of time you can make a ball on the break. That's all you can do.

I can also say that if folks attempt to cheat against the wrong person, they MAY just get more than they bargained for. More than one hustla has had there life permanently altered from a pool room incident...

Is this considered cheating though? Isn't 2 millimeters within the stated allowance for gaps between the balls?

Of course it's unethical. Anything other than the tightest rack you can achieve, is unethical.

It's more unethical if you get caught. The most unethical is if the surgeons have to remove your cuestick from your arse.

Hahahahaha - true enough...

My good friends Smith & Wesson think that it's considered cheating....

edit: no, I'm not actually advocating violence...
