The Family Inn in Rydelmere?

Thats the place.

They don't have too many tournies any more, but you'll still find some top caliber players matching up occasionally. Best to try round 5-7 weekdays and sunday as they have free pool then (and our top players are pretty cheap). Only bar boxes, so prepare to be punished if you do challenge the pros there.

Cheers - 8ballbanger

8ballbanger, how strong are the players out there in Australia? A few months ago there was a big tourney out here in Hollywood, CA and there was this Australian player there, he was a young guy, maybe 25-30 years old, had dark hair, long hair (I think) and wore a hat. He played chess with Efren Reyes for like two hours, he seemed to be having fun. Anyways, this guy played really good. Not pro level, but he seemed like a good shortstop. I don't remember his name but i remember him saying he was from Sydney.

Couldn't really say who he was without a bit more detail - that description could probably be applied to a dozen of so guys out here. Lucky bugger playing chess with Efren, I think I should get out that way.

Most of our top players usually have a background in snooker, and so probably wouldn't be as good as the top us players on a 9 foot american table which is a rare commodety around here. Switch the table to a 12 foot snooker table though and our boys would have the upper hand.

The majority of our dedicated pool boys (the ones who don't play snooker) would probably be classified as box box specialists, and the top 30 would probably run racks 50-70% of the time in 8 ball. Nine ball isn't often played cause of its simplicity on bar boxes. But there isn't a real big pool following overall. Probably 100 or so people in each state that are competent at the game.

Probably one of our best is Quinten Hann, but he is based in the UK now on the snooker tour. He won the Lindrum masters two years in a row a couple of years back. Thats was a multi dicipline tourney featuring 8 ball, 9 ball, snooker & billiards and there were some big names in it, like Steve Davis, Oliver Ortmann, Mike Massey, Jim Rempe, Eddie Charlton, Ken Rosethorn(?), and a few others I have forgotted.
