8 ball - Introducing Next - An expansion on call pocket

This is a thought on 8 ball I see alot of people running out but constantly staying out of line needing a new plan every shot. What would the game be like if it was played like this ....

When starting an inning either call safe or call a ball and pocket AND also call the (next) ball and pocket you shoot and the following shot has to be either safe or the ball and pocket called earlier, after that you continue to choose the next shot ball/pocket and shoot what you named earlier if the ball/pocket is not available make move/play safe.

Might not be good for league but would be a possible spot when 8 ball is out of line the better player has to play call pocket and also the next pocket. Thus they cannot afford to get out of line.

We play a game like that, we call it Call Ahead. It's quite interesting when you get to the 8.

A couple of my friends started calling their shot and the one following it, as a way of handicapping themselves when they were playing me when I just started out. I quickly started playing that way too. It's a great change of pace, and quite a challenge.

I played it with my buddy some when he was getting started, we played it real lax so you could change your mind but it helped us to work on teaching him to play 3 balls together which is the start of playing a good speed, shooting a shot to get on the right side of the next ball so you can easily get to the third ball. By playing it lax I mean you could change your mind, totall different game if you cannot change your next, alot of runnout artists would have the outs stalled if the shot was pre called. Would be a great handicap at 8 ball a game normally hard to handicap compared to 9 ball.
