Hi Guys,

Does 8-ball ever appear on US television? All I ever see is 9-ball. This seems somewhat ironic to me as I believe I'm right in saying that most amateur players actually play 8-ball?

Thanks for your response.

Twice that I can think of in the last 5 years. The IPT event, I think was on Versus twice.

And there was a party 8 ball team thing that had the top men and women in teams of three playing scotch doubles. It was a bit silly but at least it was different and kind of fun for a change, some of the players seemed into it.

I really think from a marketing standpoint switching 10 ball isn't a good idea. It's better for the players but even fewer people know what 10 ball is.

Indeed most amateurs play 8 ball, but that's mostly because thats the game played in bars by people that don't know how to play well (not saying that there aren't good 8 ball players, just that there are far more banger 8 ball players than 9 ball players). If you take out the people who could care less about pool, I would venture to say that the vast majority play 9/10 ball.

There's hardly even any 9 ball games on TV nowadays. I saw that party pool 8 ball game. The players really had a lot of fun and it was great watching it. Does anyone remember who that guy was that did the kamikaze break?

ESPN shows 9-ball sometimes. And AT&T Uverse offers some sports channels, several of which are showing the Mosconi Cup in Las Vegas at the moment.
