Maybe I should change my name here to: That-Guy-Who-Makes-Up-All-Those-Stupid-Games.
Anyway, as if one pocket isn't already hard enough, sometimes, when boredom sets in, I play a variation of one pocket, where the usual rules apply, except, after you call your pocket and break, your opponent gets to call either stripes or solids. The only legal shots for him are with what he calls, and you get the other set. The 8 is the only neutral ball, and can be shot anytime. If you were to pocket a stripe on the break, and they call stripes, it comes out of your pocket, gets spotted, and it's their turn--unless, by some miracle, you make one of yours as well as theirs in your pocket. Make a ball of yours in their pocket while making one of yours in your pocket, it gets spotted after your inning is finished. Make a ball of theirs in their pocket, it stays down unless you foul. Rack the balls as you would for 8-ball.
In other words, you only get to keep shootiing when you pocket one of your set in your pocket. Balls in wrong pockets get spotted. Otherwise, it's pretty much the same as standard one pocket.
Of course, there's nothing new under the sun, and I'll bet someone here played this in 1956....
