8 or 9ft table for this game room?

I have an 8ft Olhausen laminate table and need new cloth and rail work. I've always wanted a 9ft table and there is a GC IV for sale locally right now.

There is enough space all around except 1 corner near a bar which is hard to explain - The orange area is where the back of a cue would go UNDER the bar, generally. The Red is where the cue would hit, even now on some shots with my 8ft but it's never a problem. The green is ok because the cue goes above the counter top.

I don't want the room to feel cramped but would love a 9ft. I'm only interested in full sized cues, which mine are 58.5"

What would you do in this case?

(Room drawing is to scale, 17'8' from wall to end of bar, 16’5” wide)

If the 9 has bad spots decide if shorter cues are ok when needed. If you want the 9 get it.

There's nothing wrong the 8'ft (you know that). Can the 9ft be rotated somewhat. You have good space side-side.

Id go for it. Get the weighted shorty cue (trouble shooter? I think that is what its called) and let it fly because the percentage of time you are parked on that rail and have to make that exact shot is going to be minimal. Unless you are like 6 foot 5. I play on a 9-ball team with a 6 foot 5 fella. He would be angry in that corner for nearly all shots.

How far from the outer edge of that bar to the wall? Could you move the table 6" to the left to clear the edge of the bar?

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I'm going to find some cardboard and cut it to the 50x100" playing area of a 9ft table and put it over my current 8ft table. Then I can experiment with fitting it straight, at an angle or possibly cutting into the bar.

You may also run into issues with perpendicular shots on the opposite short rail as 1.5" is not a lot of backswing space. How often are you "bar hooked" now? I put my Gold Crown I in my 18' x 18' detached garage and have a short cue for the 5-10% of the time it's needed. If i were you, I'd go for the GCIV, get a good shorty cue and not dump money into the Olhausen

I laid out some cardboard where the playing surface would be and a 9ft would just be too many compromises. I could deal with the bar side, but it's also going to put me too close to the opposite wall, as was pointed out above. And in the corners I have some huge JBL speakers that I won't be parting with and I'd be too close to them on corner shots as well.

So I'm going to look for an 8ft Gold Crown IV in Utah or from someone trustworthy who will ship one freight.

Thanks again for all of the suggestions!

I never play on 8' tables....so it would either be a 9' and deal with the limited space.....or 7' Diamond with pockets a bit on the tighter side.
