9-ball format(s) when hosting team from another poolroom???

A poolroom from 40 miles away has made the friendly propsal that our room and theirs occasionally hold a reciprocal 9-ball competition. (5 or 6 of their players come to our room for a day or evening and individually compete (one-on-one) against 5 or 6 of our players (one-on-one) at 9-ball.) We in turn, visit their room on a future day or evening and they host us in an identical return competition on their equipment.

What are some efficient format structures that you’ve experienced or might have heard of that could be concluded with say, a maximum of 6 or 7 hours of playing time?

-- Some kind of round-robin where each visitor is scheduled for a race-to-three solely against each of our room’s representative players in turn?

-- Or a single- or double-elimination format of some kind where at the end, the player from each team with the best win/loss record plays his counterpart from the other team for the overall win of the competition?

-- Or any other, helpful format suggestions you may have for these reciprocal 9-ball host/visitor events?

Great idea! Why not do it like the Mosconi Cup, have a one game per person start, then do some doubles and some singles. Or do a round robin format.
So 5 person team shows up, 5 races to 1, then two doubles matches and a singles match so all get to play.
If 6, you can do two singles sets or maybe not do the races to 1 at the start and just do doubles and a couple of singles. Best record takes it, can do a tiebreaker race to 3 if needed.

Play for the bar tab (within reason say $10 a person) and a rotating trophy that sits at the bar saying "best players in the area play here".

I like the round Robin. If you had a minimum of only 2 tables available, you would still be able to finish in 6-7 hrs in a race to three. Also it would give you a clear winner I believe. If you had 3-5 tables available I would say do races to 5. Good luck with your endeavor!
 
The format depends on whether you want an individual champion or a team champion. I kind of like the team champion concept to promote a rivalry.

In that case the Mosconi Cup format is the way to go. For five players, two singles followed by three doubles followed by two singles means everyone plays twice (one player, perhaps the weakest, will play in two doubles matches; everyone else on the team plays in one singles match and one doubles match). Only problem is that total possible points is 10, which leaves a potential 5-5 tie. Maybe another doubles match tie-breaker if necessary.

A lot of fun stuff you could do with that.
For example, if you have 5 players, you could start off with 5 singles matches worth 1 point each, then hold a scotch doubles match worth 2 points while remaining players play a scotch triples match worth 3 points. Then if the points are tied after all that, you can hold a 5 on 5 scotch match with everyone involved for all the marbles!

It will take some trial and error at first, but you can always add more matches or make each match longer to fill the time as you see fit. Good luck!
 
You could just do a massive low stakes 6 hour ring game, $1 on the 5, $2 on the 9.

With two teams, you're guaranteed an even number of players. Alternate turns based on which pool hall players are from will keep things fair. At the end of the night, the "room" who wins the most $$$ wins.
