ok say im giveing u the 7 ball playing 9 ball. i make the 7 and scratch. my opp. doesnt spot the ball, just takes ball in hand and shoots the 8 then 9 ball. question is. did opp foul by not spotting up him money ball so in fact he shot the wrong ball by shooting the 8 when he should have spotted the 7 and shot. most people would have given him the game i know. it wasnt me and the game was on a big table 8 ahead for a dime. since spotting balls for a game is not an actuall pro way so there is to my knoladge no rule book for it. what is the general answer and please give reasons. thx for the input. oh yea aftyer the btching contest was over the best shooter gave him the game.

I would say that since you were the one shooting, and the seven was not your money ball, it should stay down. If he was the one shooting, it should come up again.
However, since spotting is not included in the WPA rules, I suppose that its anybodys decision..

The 7 ball should definitely be spotted. The reason for this is so that you cannot just shoot his money ball in at any time and get it off the table with an intentional foul. As for whether or not he fouled by shooting the wrong ball, I am unsure. I would probably have just given him the game when I scratched, but if he jumps up and starts to shoot the 8 ball...I would probably let him shoot. Since I basically lost the game with the scratch, I would take my chances on him running the 8 and 9. Since there are no rules governing this when gambling, you kinda have to set the rules before you start I guess. JMO

If the 7 is spotted with ball in hand for my opponent I would have just raked the balls....You lost...he shoots the 8 ~ 9, results: You lost...If it wasn't agreed upon before play started it's no foul...

It is the players(that made the 7) responiblity to spot the 7 ball back up. It does state right in the the rule book that incoming players do not spot the ball and shoot or that is a foul. If he forgot to spot it then it is indeed his fault and he lost, as he was going to anyways. So what was the big pissing match about???

Good point! I have to say that if the ball is to be spotted, your interpretation is absolutely correct.
thx for the input. i agree that the person giving up the spot should be the one who spots the ball. as most of u have stated as would i. the game was over. seven ball would not have been tied up. someone else asked me last night after i typed this up is what the rules are for straight pool. would it be close to this situation. but i also know there is no big book on this problem it is a rule that should be talked about before the game. thx for all input . u all have a merry x-mas and happy and safe new year

Of course, some guys put so much conditions on their spots that I wind up thinking who's getting the spot, me or him. One guy recently offered to give me the 8 on the condition that I not slop it in or make it with a combination. I had to make it in order. Well, because my slop can be my most potent weapon, I turned him down saying, "Wild eight or we don't play." I'd rather play him even than wearing the straight-jacket he wanted to put on me.
