my tournament
Handicap tournaments are run like this... if its a 9 point scale usually the best players are a "9" handicap and the worst players are like "3" handicap... Your handicap will move up or down depending on your results in the tournament over a persiod of a few weeks... Now the handicaps themselves signify the number of games the player has to win to win the match ... for example if a 9 handicap played a 3 handicap then the race would be 9 to 3 with the better player having to win 9 games before the other player won 3 games or vice versa.... sometimes places have a 9 or 11 point scale with a plus/minus system which means that if a 9 level player wins the tournament 3 weeks in a row then obviously his handicapped needs to be changed. They will make him a 9 -1 (nine minus 1). WHich means that this player stills has to go to 9 but his opponent takes one game off of his own handicap... so a 9 -1 playing a 3, the race would be 9 to 2... if he played a 6 level player, the race would be 9 to 5 and so on... I love handicap tournaments even though I am a higher handicap player... it provides a good challenge and allows there to be a good tournout to weekly tournaments where the worst player in the city could take down the cash... hope this helps....
