9 Ball, Hill/Hill You're Shot.....

I have no idea how to play safe or run out in this rack..

I set this up last night, I cut the 6 with high right, the position off the 6 gave me a good angle on the 7 for a draw shot, I used low with a touch of left, I didnt get straight in on the 8 but the angle wasnt bad, shot it in the upper left hand corner and the cue ball was near the center of the table for an easy 9.

After doing this a few times, I would still rather cut the 6, IMO its do or die anyway, no real good saftey options, and a bank in this situation isnt the way Id go, but Im not real keen on banks, presently.

I did find this is a good situation to practice, and yes this was on an olhousen 9' with tight pockets. I think Im going to use this situation to warm up for at least a week, Good Stuff!

It's awesome how situations, like this one that come up in a real match Hill/Hill going for a third place lock up, can happen. You would never expect this! It's great that we have a place like this to discuss these "freak" situations and then go practice.

The Cuetable is a great tool for sharing. I even keep the printed ones in my bag to draw on, just in case one of these comes up.

Thanks to everyone for their ideas!

Congrats on running this layout on your first attempt. You indicated that you tried this layout a few times. Can I assume you were only able to run out once in three attempts?

I'm also intrigued by the idea of attempting to bank the 6 and bringing the CB over to the right side of the 7. If I can do that, my chances of making both the 7 and the 8 go up considerably. If I make the 6 and don't like my CB position for the 7, I can always play safe. I'll have to try out this layout the next time I'm at a pool hall.

Yes it took me a few times before the speed was right off the 6, I ran this on the third try, not the first. I also tried to bank the 6, as well as play safe, banking the 6 either left me a bank on the 7 or I had to shoot it in the right hand lower pocket, then the 8 in the upper left hand pocket, this seemed more difficult to me, playing safe, I never could get the cue ball behind the 9 and leave the 6 tough, I tried this twice, both time's I hit the 6 to hard, and left a shot.

Im going to add this layout to my practice routine because of the speed control it requires, geez the first time I shot this I hit the 6 with way to much speed. I eased up some the second time, still to hard, the third time I eased up just a lil more and didnt actualy think it was going to go, it did, and you iknow the result. I couldnt believe the pressure I felt on every ball, and when the 9 fell it felt good. Thats something I useualy dont get at the practice table.

Look at a rail shot, see the V? if you aim dead through the center of the ball, to split that V you will pocket the ball. give it a try. also give this layout a try as well..

Set this up yesterday. Did it several times, easily. Speed was not a problem, playing on old cloth, GC. Banked 6 to middle of the end rail and putting the QB down, and sometimes behind the 9. Left english gives the speed for the QB to go down table without a problem, and actually could have hit it softer with good results.

Even if you did hide the CB behind the 9, the real question is can you run out even with BIH? :D
