9 ball - Instruction material

A while ago I stumbled upon some instruction material solely intended for 9 ball. It stated that there are only a limited amount of shots that always come up in 9 ball. Training on these particular shots is basically what that training video was all about.

Since I only focus on 9 ball, that training video looked useful to me. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of that training material. Does anyone know what this could be?

Limited amount of shots?

Seems to me there are a very very lot of shots.. And the more you know and practice and remember... The better.

Of course there are many kinds of shots. But if you take them all back to the essence and group them, you only got something between 15 - 30 shots that are REALLY different from each other.

I seem to remember a video Danny Basavich made years ago like that. I can't remember what it was called though.

You might be right about that. Danny Basavich made a DVD titled "The Kid Delicious". The first lesson on that DVD is called: The Twelve Shots You Should Have In Your Arsenal To Be Successful at 9 Ball.

Not sure if this is the same as what I described.

Bert Kinister's "60 Minute Workout" fits the description. It's 30 shots that frequently show up in 9 ball. It's video #1 on his web page. In the video he shoots each shot several times and describes how to do it.

If you search AZ you will find other threads about it. I highly recommend it and Berts other videos. Check out his web page.

That might be the video, thanks! Do you have a link to that particular video? I only see "The 60 Minute Workout For 8-Ball and 9-Ball", or is it the same?

Maybe you are referring to CJ Willy? That's his philosophy.

Do you have access to a poolroom, not a bar, with 9 footers? Go there and play game after game, set after set, against a really good player. Best instruction you can get is just by observing. You will be amazed how well your sub conscious retains things for future use. Most people learn by doing. It's like becoming a parent. You can read all the manuals but when the baby arrives that's when you learn about parenting.

Yes, that's the video.

I believe he sells individual videos on DVD. But the best deal is to subscribe to his web page for a month and see if you like it. You get access to 100 1hr videos, on demand streaming, included in the subscription.

Video #1-3 are a series. He shows the 30 shots of the workout in video 1. Discusses some of the shots more in video 2. And discusses how to run multiple balls, using the shots, in video 3.

We could "crowd source" this concept here on azb.

Start a thread asking for submissions for "The top shots you need to know to play A speed 9-ball".

Then take the submissions into another thread and have voting to rank them.

For better or worse, it would represent the entire conciousness of azb and the current state of the game, and could evolve over time. Might provide resources/motivation to those unwilling to commit to another training program.
