In this exact scenario, 1/4 cut break. Making the 1 ball into the side.

To be more specific cut the 1 ball on the same side of the table you are breaking from. while drawing the cueball to the side rail.

The 1/4 cut is crucial here.

you're cutting it more because the rack is closer to you.

This doesn't work on 9' and I haven't tried it on 8'

The cut breaks works on 9 footers also when you can't break from the side for the 1 or the corner balls.
