What would be a fair spot between a solid A player and a solid B player? I'm thinking in terms of games on the wire in a race to 7, or would the last 2 or the wild 8 be better? If these same two players are playing a 5 ahead set, what would be a fair handicap? Also, do you have to be able to read racks and pattern rack to be considered an A player?

what I would do.
I (am considered an A player) would give a B player 1 game on the wire going to 7 (still have to beat him 7-5 to win). Have to bet at least $25 a set.
I would give him the last 2. Have to bet at least $25 a set.
I would probably give him the wild 8, for larger money only (100 a set and up).
And no, it is not a requirement to be able to read racks to be an A player, although it helps.
Pattern racking, same answer as above.
All this is based upon my evaluation of the B player, in otherwords, how good of a B player he is. Big difference between a low to middle B as opposed to a top B. For example, I would give a middle B the wild 8, but a B+ would only get the call 8.

Hard to say how two specific individuals will match up. A vs. B for the cash could be nearly an even match or extremely lopsided depending on the players, the bet, the day, the conditions, etc. If you are truly looking for a fair game you will have to work at it a bit. Play 8 or 10 sets over several different days to get an idea of what is fair. Generally speaking, I think a solid A player should be able to give a solid B player the wild 8 or call 7 and make a match out of it. That's probably 2 on the wire going to 7. Typically the A player will offer less than that and the B player will ask for more than that. Just part of the matching up process.
