9 Ball Safety Rule

I play in a league where in 9 ball, if you make a ball, you must continue to shot.
So, you cannot call a safe and make a ball. A good end of game strategy.

I don’t see any information on this in WPA, BCA, APA rules.

Is this a crazy rule ?

No it is not a crazy rule because without it (see the recent 'do you prefer draw or follow' thread) you could just call safe, make the 8 ball and leave them glued to the rail. The main idea is you need to control both balls for a safety this way, not just the CB after pocketing.

The way we always played in that situation if you make a ball and call safe leaving your opponent tough he has to option of giving you back the shot or taking it as it lies, much the same as a push out.

Sound like what people call house rules.

Maybe league owner made special rules for their league.

That is a rule / strategy utilized and allowed in
8-ball, but never in 9-ball - sorry.

The written rules say nothing about calling safe at 9 ball because it is not part of nine ball. The progress of the game is clear: make a ball without fouling and it remains your turn. Here is the WPA rule for the flow of the game for 9 ball:

2.5 Continuing Play
If the shooter legally pockets any ball on a shot (except a push out, see 2.4 Second Shot of the
Rack – Push Out), he continues at the table for the next shot. If he legally pockets the nine
ball on any shot (except a push out), he wins the rack. If the shooter fails to pocket a ball or
fouls, play passes to the other player, and if no foul was committed, the incoming player must
play the cue ball from the position left by the other player.
