9-ball amateur tourney

What does "All entries up to $500 will be added to prize fund" mean?

The $20 green fee for each player will be added into the money until the tournament reaches 25 players? The bar will add $500 as long as they get $500 in green fees?

Personally, I dont understand green fees. You have a room full of players on a day where maybe you dont normally have players. They're all extra business, you can only gain profit. Show me a pool room that is full on a Saturday afternoon and I'll show you 1991.

All green fees will be added to prize pool up to five hundred dollars. If more than 25 players do show up those monies will be in the prize pool as well. Rooms cannot add monies to tournaments. The players do not generate enough extra revenue for the room to justify added funds.

Example a room adds $500 and 10 players show up. It costs the room $50 PER PLAYER... Based on a 30% net from income that player would have to spend approximately $150 for the room to recoup its money in that situation.

By collecting and then re-adding green fees to the prize pool the players continue to benefit and the room still makes some money...

Thanks for your understanding.

The majority of players do not eat or drink and therefore generatiing back true added money is not possible.

If the room is adding $500, players will show up.

By taking $20 per entry, its kind of like they're adding money but they arent actually adding anything. Why not just leave the $20 green fee off of the flyer if they all are going to be added back in?

Personally, I eat and have atleast one drink when Im out. But I understand that not all players do.

Rooms cannot afford to add outright money.

The idea of returning green fees helps to add to total prize funds.

Rooms do not offer tournaments as charity events. They are looking to make some extra money from visiting players. The incentive to draw players is large prize pools.
In a situation where more players show up and there is a surplus of green fees over added monies rooms can be guaranteed a profit. Otherwise they are hoping to break even through ancillary food and beverage sales.

The player who shoes up with a Timmies coffee or who leaves the venue for lunch is only helping to destroy tournament pool.

Players generally know their own handicaps in various tournaments. So handicapping is easy based on pre-existing information. Unknown players who cannot be vouched for will play as 9's

Sounds like a decent tournament. I'd like to attend, but as a recent arrival to Ontario, with no current handicap (and no one to vouch for me), having to play as a 9, when my speed is more like a 5, isn't worth the trip.

I'm having the exact same problem, its too bad because it takes many of the non-league players out of the tournament.

No-HANDICAP NO PROBLEM

Show up early...
We will try to verify your handicap by using a benchmark player...

If you are under-handicapped your handicap will be raised mid tournament.

Look forward to seeing lots of older faces...

Frank Kokouros

Ohh okay I catch your drift now, well I will contact him and see what I can do. Thanks for the advice Will.

Good luck

No I've never played any events really, I'm 20 so you may be thinking of my father Gord. He was the number one pro-am in Ontario for a bit in the early 90's and definitely did a lot of playing around. I dont follow what your talking about with Frank, could you rephrase that for me lol?

Great, that makes good sense. Thanks for the update.
