My recollection is that PB would occasionally run pool stories.

I cannot be certain it was PB (looking at the other informative articles) but I seem to recall one story featuring Luther "Wimpy" Lassiter and another featuring Ronnie Allen.

in a 1957 Playboy magazine, Walter Tevis's story the Hustler first appeared. But I didn't realize Byrne also did an article for Playboy

It was always a running joke that people got Playboy for the articles, but there were some seriously good articles in that magazine.

I remember reading an article/interview with Gary Gilmore when he elected firing squad as his method of execution.

“The Executioners Song”…Norman Mailer…an excellent book…the movie starred Tommy Lee Jone as Gilmore…when interviewed about his role as Gilmore Jones commented “they didn’t kill him soon enough”…the audience comprised of acting students gasped….

When I visited Richard Black‘s cue shop in Houston years ago there was a Playmate fold out on the wall in the shop. The Playmate was laying on her side and one of Richard’s cues was in the picture.

Yes, I remember That Poster, but the wife made me put it away.... now it lost forever in one of my file!!!!

One of Richard Black's favorite beauties was a Playboy centerfold in 1989. The page is framed and displayed on a wall in his workshop.
But it's not the model sprawled topless on the pool table. It's the cue with which she posed that's caught his eye.
Black designed it, made it and named it Crown.

Karen Foster Playboy centerfold in October 1989 issue.
