A called two in one shot on final

This came up yesterday at a pool hall in Kansas City where I was playing. Some very large gentleman playing 8 ball in the corner called me over to ask about a shot. There was a solid lined up for a cut in the side and the eight was in front of the corner pocket. It looked to be a perfect two in one shot. Hs opponent was saying if he missed this called shot he would lose the game, because the last ball was the eight. I honestly didn't know how to answer the man. Anyone know the answer? I'm curious.
 
I believe in TAP league play that you can legally call both balls... the only stipulations are that your object ball must drop before the 8 ball and if the 8 ball fails to drop, it is a foul and you give the opponent ball in hand. I've never seen it actually occur in match play as most people would just sink one ball and then sink the easy 8 from ANYWHERE on the table.

I did mention that I would shoot the shots one at a time to be safe, but he went for it anyway and miscued. By then I was back at my table watching from a safe distance, lol. I'm not use to seeing a lineman sized player in a poolhall. It's a shame he miscued, it would've been a pretty shot.
 
I'm not too sure about league based rules but I always play you can't pocket the 8ball and another ball in one stroke, not matter if the other ball goes in first and you call the pocket of the 8ball.

Don't know about TAP but under WPA rules cannot do. This would be an early 8 and loss of game. BCAPL probably same.

Excerpt from WPA rule 3.6

"The eight ball may be called only after the shot on which the shooter’s group has been cleared from the table."

With the comment above about TAP, I think we can safely say:

There is no set of written rules that allows you to pocket your last object ball and the eight ball on the same shot.

I don't know... I just remember somebody asking about it one night at league and the director had to actually look up the rule on the spot. She said it was a legal shot (based on the rules I stated above). But, she could have been full of crap too. I never read the rule myself and like I said... I've never seen it actually done.

The TAP National rules are available on-line. Here is the pertinent part:

You cannot call two balls at the same time.​

The director must have just been too lazy to actually look up the rule then. Doesn't suprise me that they lied... they ended up getting banned for life due to league fraud and intentionally promotting sanbaging.
